Robinson Nina Foch Hugh Marlowe in BLOOD iay Says . . . 6 Mr The most frequent type of heart disease in people over the age of 30 is due to ha. denr g (arteriosclerosis) of the coronary arteries (the vessels whic1, supply blood to the heart muscles). The walls of the coronary arteries become hardened and thickened, usually with narrowing of the channels and a consequent decrease in the size of the blood stream which flows through them. This reduction in the blood supply to the heart muscles frequently results in pain in the center of the chest, brought on bv exertion or marked emotion and relieved promptly bv rest. Thi- - symptom :s commonly known true angias "angina pectoris na or simply angina." At times forms in a a clot (thrombus) thickened coronary artery, blocking the ciianne) and cutting off the blood supply to a portion of the heart muscle, 'this condition is called coronary thrombosis and is popularly known as a heart attack." The blocking of a coronary artery by a blood clot is not related to exertion and may occur whether a person is resting or exercising. The pain that develops when a heart attack occurs, is located in the center of the chest as in true angina, however, it is much more severe, it lasts much longer and is not relieved oromptly bv rest. There are many condtions, not due to heart disease, which may produce pain in the center or the left side of the chest. This type of pain has been called false angina. The mo3. common condition causing such pain is nervousness or anxiety. Cther conditions which mav cause this type of chest pain are inflammation of the lining f the lung (pleurisy) or the lining of the heart (pericarditis), irrita-tio- i of the nerves (neuritis) of he chest wall, hernia of the diaphragm, gall stones, stomach ulcer etc. In most cases the personal physician can decide whether a pei son has true or talse angina from a careful consideration of the description of .he pain and the results of a complete physical examination. In occasional cases and electrocardiograms may be required. True angina occurs most frequently in people over 40 years of age. It occurs much more often in men than in women. Most chest false angina and has pain is nothing to do with heart disease However, since chest pain mav be "true angina any person with chest pain should have the condition checked bv his personal physician ' O Mina iWU13,am son David and family and Mr and Mrs Rowe Zwahien all from Salt Lake City. s Gene Thompson was home from Salt Lake City last week end where he is attending school and visited his parents, Mr and Mrs Willis Thompson. o Vona Dean Ralphs was home from Carbon College last week end and she entertained a group of her college associates at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs LaVerd Ralphs, last Friday evening with games and refreshments. well staffed to print When your savings amount to a dollar or more, put them where they will do YOU the most good.
