Show Emcstry CcDdaoty Pmggiress David 0. McKay lare Dinosaur VOLUME 51, NUMBER CASTLE DALE, UTAH 44 JUNE FRIDAY, 29, 1951 FERRON NOTES By Mrs Deborah Huntsman Mr and Mrs Guy Shepherd of Tooele were here over the week end with her parents, Mr and Mrs Clive Killpack. Dr. and Mrs Ernest Baker spent a part of last week here A paleontological discovery made one year ago near the visiting her mother, Mrs Annie Petty, at the Herbert Nelson San Rafael River bridge by Owen iMcClanahan and Chas.' home. Magnuson of Castle Dale may shortly claim the attention of the students of natural history of the world. The discovery was this week called rare and very important by Dr. Edwin II. Colbert, Curator of Fossil Reptiles and Amphibians of the American Museum of Natural History of Now York City, and Dr. Elden Beck of Brigham Young University. These two men w'ere guided by Mr. McClanalian to the site, on Tuesday of this week, and succeeded in taking out one vertebrae, one leg bone and several casts of teeth of a small crocodile-lik- e dinosaur, earliest known dinosaur species which lived about 130,000,000 years ago, antedating by many millions of years the larger dinosaurs. According to Mr. McClanalian, the only other place in where similar geological specimens have been discovered is in Arizona. The local specimens will therefor be widely heralded and discussed. The fossils will be taken by Dr. Colbert to the New York museum where they will be compared with the Arizona fos sils and positively identified. Tracks of the animal were dis covered nearby also, advises Mr. McClanahan. Dr. Beck showed considerable interest in Mr. McClana-han- s descriptions of the Mexican Bend section. He declared his intention to penetrate the area by horse-bac- k next autumn. This, if it eventuates, will serve to publicize this picturesque region markedly. Emery Man Awarded Ph. D. At Cornell U.
