UTAH By Ertta Haley Bateau Neckline hours to a hat to go with a certain suit or dress while another one wears any fashionable hat with any dress. Another maintains an elaborate shoe wardrobe and each pair goes only with a certain costume. Which is right? Which wrong? Choosing accessories requires as ONE WOMAN takes much thought, care and attention as the well dressed woman gives in choosing suits, coats and dresses. One hat may well go with several different dresses, or a pair of shoes may be suitable for only one dress. What you choose depends upon your own good taste, or someone elses if you cant trust yourself. For most of us, its simply not practical to have too many accessories for the wardrobe. Hats, shoes, handbags and other such items must be chosen for double duty. When selected with thought and care, they can serve just that purpose. Fashions in these Items change from season to season just as they do in suits, dresses and coats. Last year's hat may be just the thing, but then again, it may not. It simply depends on the style of the hat, and whether it varies too much from the general trend. Accessories such as scarves and jewelry can do a lot for you in a fashion-wis- e manner this season because dresses and suits are not Profile hats are excellent for making plump cheeks as well as full hiplines more attractive. They flatter as well as draw attention away from these two features which vary from the norm. .... iurY TROUBLE is the too famil-Allar one drink, writes Esther George from Toledo. A travelling salesman drove up behind a farmers wagon, which was being drawn by two mules. Deciding to have some fun, the salesman began honking his horn furiously. The mules soon bacame jittery, and the farmer waved a warning to the salesman. But he kept right on honking as hard as he could until the mules finally broke and ran. They crashed into a billboard and both of them were in rich man was by the death of bis only son. He decided to draw up a will, leaving a large trust fund to his sons young widow. However, he added a proviso that the money should be cut off in case the young woman ever remarried. After the man's death, she went to court to have this proviso declared null and void. She argued that it wasn't fair to force her to remain single for the rest of her life. However, the court ruled that the will was perfectly legal. Is the high school curriculum at fault? Are parents at fault? Attempting to find out the answers to these questions, more than 200 educators from all sections of the nation recently met in Washington at the U.S. office of seminar. education for a four-da- y All agreed present conditions in the nations high schools comprised a threat to the nation (1) by turning out thousands of young men and women; (2) flooding a labor market with youngsters not yet ready to either make a living for themselves or to face lifes problems in their inevitable roles as fathers, mothers or good citizens. The national child labor committee recently published a study as to why so many thousands of these young people refused to finish their high school education. Among these reasons were included; (1) they could learn more outside, since the course of study meant nothing to them; (2) a desire to work and make money; (3) they were not getting along in their studies and were wasting their time; (4) they didnt like a certain subject in their curriculum or didnt like the teachers. The study showed that about 20 per cent of the high school enrollment intended to enter the professions and for these the curriculum was probably adequate since they intended to go on to college; another 20 per cent were going into skilled trades, and if they were in a vocational school the curriculum was adequate. But for the other 60 per cent their high school education meant very little. Generally, it was agreed that high school education must mean something more than a study of the three R's, which sufficed in grandfathers day; that high school education curricula in scores of instances must be brought up to date to relate it more definitely with modern-dalife.. Horse and buggv curricula must be eliminated, since most of them are based on the assumption the pupil is going to college when as a matter of fact only about 20 per cent ever even enter college. What the average high school youth needs today, say the educators, is a new outlook . . . atomic energy . . . current day happenings . . . practical guidance on how to get a job and hold it . . . how to get along with people . . . how to progress in his own community . . . how to get along with his own specific human relations in his home, in his neighborhood etc. And these conditions vary in each community. He will not be a professional man or woman, nor hold down a skilled job . . . but he must make a living in a world and be an upstanding parent and a good American citizen. He wont be if his high school education is geared to grandfather's time in which he is not interested in the slightest degree. This is something for educators and parents to think about in every high school district in the .country, for if that boy or girl can be kept interested in high school for four years instead of two, he will be fitted better for a happier life and for a more useful citizen. Although wounded by shrapnel and singed by fire, the official dispatches said, Simon went right on with his duty of clearing the ship of rats. Simons attachment to the ship and its crew was hailed as an example of devotion which did much to bolster the morale of British sailors when the vessel ultimately made its sensational dash to the sea and freedom.
