Hunter Sugar allotments for home canning were liberalized Wednesday night. Under a new regulation, home canners will be entitled to one pound of sugar for every fouz; quarts of cammed fruit, and an additional pound of sugar for each member of tee family to make jams. Jellies, preserves and fruit butters. Previous regulations restricted each sugar ration card holder to five pounds for home canning. If this amount already has been used to putting up early fruits and berries, it must be computed in any new canning allot- ment. The much smaller allotment for Jams and preserves was deliberately figured, OPA said, to encourage home camming instead of preserving, because the amount of sugar required per can of fruit is less In canning than in jam maklmg or preserving. Applications for home canning supplies may be made upon special forms obtained from lo-cal ration boards at times and places to be amnounced later. Applicants must give the names of all consumers on whose behalf applications are filed, the numbers of their ration brooks, the number of quarts of fruit now in their possession amd tee number of quarts they Intend to can.
