Weevil and cutworms were the first to cause serious damage to hay, but in spite of controlling methods used, they caused thousands 'of dollars damage. Insects in the gardens have been unusually bad in some respects. The cutworm, bean beetles, and other worms have taken toll on most of the gardens. Grasshoppers have been bad in Moore and Greenriver. The bait used in their control has caused bee men to move their stands to new areas. Rust is reported to be the worst it has been in many years and is ruining many crops of wheat that were otherwise very promising. Brain fever in horses is the newest trouble reported. This dreaded disease is present in nearly all parts of the county. Farmers are doing all they can to vaccinate their horses against Queen Contest Scheduled For E. C. V. R. CASTLE DALE At a general meeting of the stockholders of the Cottonwood Creek Consolidated Irrigation Company held Monday, August 4, at the court house at Castle Dale, the stockholders voted unanimously in favor of the Joes valley reclamation project. The meeting was called by the board of directors of the CottonIrriwood Creek Consolidated gation Company to advise the stockholders of the facts concerning the Joes valley project and how they would participate in it. During the last part of the meeting an open forum, was conducted wherein any questions the stockholders had concerning the project were answered and explained. Ernest E. Jensen, president of the irrigation company acted as chairman of the meeting. T. W. Jensen, field representative for the Associated Civic clubs of Southern Utah, was present and discussed the allocation of water under the Colorado river compact and explained the effect of this compact on the supplementary water in Emery county. Mr. Jensen stated that Utah was allocated 1,700,000 acre feet of water under the compact, which must be put to beneficial use within the state, which necessitate the storing of these waters in small reservoirs; that unless this supplemental water is stored and put to use in the very near future, that it would be lost to southern California, where at present there are being formed new tracts for farming of about 1,500,000 acres. advantage of the funds so that funds already appropriated can be used, assuring them that there would be ample funds appropriated in the future to build the most important of these small reservoirs; that the money will not be turned back to the general fund, but stays permanently until used under the act, but it is not the intention of congress to have the money in a fund and not have it used.
