Show Inside: C Xrung & loogng Thursday, December 5, 2002 MARC is bopping with activity this weekend and all month In the next two weeks, the MARC will host the llohday Crafts Fair, start winter classes with Eric Thomas, and hold the December Art w aik honoring the w ork of students and teac of the KLARC. Of the Holiday Craft fair, the director, H L. Webe r sas Tb be honest. I'm not a huge fan of Christmas, but this jear. Im pretty excited. Ive seen pictures of all the arts and crafts that will be here, and it is beautiful stuff. Theres going to be good food and performances throughout the day. I'm e en going to get my picture taken for a Christmas card Im sure it will be a lovely, fun day, and thats coming from a Christmas grouch! The annual Holiday Crafts Fair is this Saturday, December 7, from 10 a m. untn 5 p m , at the MARC, 111 East 100 North. Besides arts and crafts, there will be entertainment. The Valley Voices will sing at 11 a m., Keltica plays at 1 p m., Lou Alcorns young string players play at 2 p m , young pianists taught by Elaine Welling play at 3 p m , and the Red Ruck Stars perform at 3.30 p m Food will include hot dogs and soda from the moms of the Red Rock Stars. Robin of the Knave of Hearts Bakery w ill be serving little pizzas, spinach pies, hot soup, Danish, cookies, coffee and tea. The Kettle Korn man will be there as will be Girl Scouts spinning up cotton candy Santa will be there lor picture from 10 a m to 2 p ml, and if you want Fido or Fifi to get in on the act, you can have their picture taken with you from 2pm to 4 p m Because the pictures are digital, theyll be ready for you to take home that h-e- day Other MARC activities Music classes with Eric Thomas begin next week (December 9). These include Learn to Listen to Music (Like a Musician), Community Drummers, Musician-shi- p Skills for Young People and Musicianship Skills for Adults. Humane Society of Moab goes to Salt Lake City for Super Adoption Day The Humane Society of Moab Valley has been busy. Not only are they busy with their everyday activities like fostenng cats and dogs, and then adopting them out: they are now going out of town and out of state. Just a couple of weeks ago, several members of HSMV went up to SLC. With 6 dogs and 2 cats, they participated in the TOYS for TOTS SUPER ADOPTION DAY at the Fair Grounds. For two fuJJ days they worked the crowds. For over two years now, HSMV has been going up to SIX for SUPLR ADOPTION DAY events. Every spring and fall, the Humane Society of Moab Valley, along with shelters and other rescue groups throughout Utah, have taken cats, dogs, puppies and kittens to Petsmart in SLC. Now, on December 7, another group of people, cats and dogs, is headed over to the Grand Junction Petsmart for their first 1 experience at a SUPER ADOPTION there. We wish them luck in placing lots of kitties and dogs in homes in Grand Junction. But for those of you in Moab looking for your friendly, furry addition to the family, the Humane Society of Moab Valley will also be having an Adoption Day in Moab on December 7. The HSMV will be at the Holiday Craft Fair at the MARC in Moab. Downstairs will be dogs and cats, and pictures with Santa. Upstairs you will see how busy the HSMV volunteers have been. Many of the great gifts, and stocking stuffers for your furry friends were made right here in Moab. All natural, homemade dog biscuits of various flavors, Moab Organic catnip mice, great cat toys, and dog biscuit adorned wreaths are among some of the items available at their booth. Stop by on Saturday, and be a part of the festivities. grant. The director, ILL. Finally, the ArtWalk will include art produced by students of the MARC. This will be everything from poetry to ceramics to sculpture to painting and drawing. H.L. encourages all MARC students to bring their work next Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to submit to the show, which will be on Saturday, De- cember 14, from 6:00 to 9.00 p.m. This Aft Walk will include entertainment by students of the MARC, including some dramatic performances, belly dancing and even a fashion show. As a gift to the community, the Canyonlands Film Society is reducing admittance to $3 for adults and $2 for children. Jason Long, a visitor from Virginia, won the race with a coursecrushing time of 16.43, crossing the finish line two and a half minutes from the second place runner, Steve Frederick. The fastest woman to finish was Stacey Donahue with a time of 21.25. Anew category this year, was the Canine and Human Duo, for racers and their dogs. Robert Norman and his Great Dane, Soda, won in this category. Reeky Byrd and Roger d 200-sho- Why soar with the eagles when Why Boar with the eagles, when you can trot with the turkeys?" was the slogan for this years Turkey Trot which was held on Saturday, November 23, a gorgeous Canyon Country fall morning. In its 8th year, the 2002 event was a grand success. Sponsored by Moab City Recreation, typically 20 to 25 locals" participate in the race, some running, some jogging, and others walking. This year 48 people registered for the race, some as far away as Virginia and Pennsylvania, and completed the course. Among the participants was a local group of women who had recently quit smoking, another individual who had recently run her first mile only a week before, moms pushing toddlers in strollers, owners with their dogs, as well as some regulars who have been running the race since for sale by artisans at this weekend's Christmas Crafts Fair at the MARC. 2. Santa-beggin- g, g l frozen-flagpol- e triple-dog-dar- Stucki were the winners in the age groups. Sam Webster was the fastlst youth, age 14 and under. Several young people under the age of 10 competed in the race, with 8 year old Macrae Olsen taking first in the age group. Other division winners included: Fastest Male, age was Ben 9 Byrd; Fastest Male, age was Jim Lewis; Fastest Male, age 40 and over was Doug Bagge; Fastest Female, age 5 was Kris Kifer; and Fastest Female, age 36 and over was B. J. Smith. Turkeys were awarded to several winners. Each participant received a or gift certificate to Arches Book Company, in addition to free gifts provided by local merchants. A drawing was held for other prizes donated by local businesses. Moab City Recreation would like to thank the local businesses that contributed to the success of this Friday.
