The Moab Area Economic Development office, Moab City, and the Moab Chamber of Commerce are putting together a market analysis focusing on business in the downtown area. The study will look at two distinct markets: visitors and local residents. Who are the visitors? What are they buying in Moab, and what would they buy if it was available? On the local side, what goods and services are Moab residents going out of town (or on the internet) for? The market analysis will try to provide local businesses with the information they need to better compete in the future. But the study will not be successful without the active participation of local merchants, says Moab Area Economic Development office coordinator Ken Davey. This survey, continued gather some of that data. Our very successful marketing workshop earlier this Davey, is a way to winter showed that Moab business owners are looking for ways to improve their businesses. And we believe this survey will further that cause. But from the beginning, weve kept one thing in mind: we dont want a study that sits on a shelf or in a file cabinet and gathers dust. We want information that local businesses can really use. That means having business owners involved in the process of deciding the kind of information we need, what questions to ask. Davey said he is working with Chamber of Commerce President Toni Bronson and Chamber administrator Randy Martin on putting together focus groups to discuss the issue. On Wednesday and Thursday, March 20 and 21, well gather together merchants in small groups to go over the information they want to amass. Business owners know better than anyone else how they operate, what they need to know.
