He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-daSaints. He served in three different bishoprics, was a stake missionary, Boy Scout master, secretary for the Young Men's Program, ward activity chairperson and worked as a temple worker in the Monticello Tbmple for three years, Mud had a love of the mountain, and his cabin there. If it could liHve tss11 possible he would have loved to have been buried there. Mud is survived by his wife I .enure, of 51 years, a son Michael Ray (Ann) Arehart - Moah, and a daughter Ginger Ilene (Manuel) Tirres - Moah. During his years of scouting service he earned his WimkI Madge and Silver Heaver Awards. He was part of the first Jeep Safari Moy Scout Marls'que that is held annually and has lieen involved with it every year since. le waa alwaya at the gates taking the tickets. He sent each year helping the boy scouts hand water to the runners on the annual spring Marathon Run Mud was serving at the time of his 1 -- -- Winnemucca, Nev. Rud was preceded in death by his daughter Debbie Paul ) Cox, his pumita, and a sister, ( Chanilette (Al) Cartwright. He has 13 grandchildren and 17 who all loved being in his home and having Sunday dinner together. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at 11 a m. in the LDS Chapel on 4th North. A viewing was held on Monday, March 11, 2002 from 9 p.m. at the Moab Memorial Mortuary and then prior to the services on Tuesday morning. Richard W. Lawrence, Jr., 93, dud Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002 st the Elizabethtown Community Hospital in Elizabethtown, New York. He was born Jan. 16, 1909 in the Bronx, son of Richard W. Lawrence and Ruth Earle. i le attended Pnnoetun UniverColumbia Law School and and sity served in the U.S. Army Air Caps from 1942 to 1945. He retired from the US. Air Force Reserve as Lt. Col. in 196S. He practiced law in New York Corp. In 1933 he mar- ried Marjorie Fitch. She predeased him in 1945. In 1947, he moved with his second wife, Elizabeth Hand Wadhams, and their three daughters, Robin, Alida and Elizabeth, to the Adirondacks. There, his interest in education led him to serve on local school and college boards and as president of the Crary Foundation in Elizabethtown from 1973 to 2002. This organization, which he helped found, provides scholarships for Adirondack students to pursue higher education. He was founder of the Essex County Historical Society and served for many years as a trustee of the New York State Historical Association. Richard served as the first chairman of the Adirondack Park Agency in 1971. He stepjied down from that position in 1975, but continued for many years to serve on the Boards of Association for His funeral services were held on March 2, 2002 in Moab. Lucas was the son of Dana James and Sabera Irene Hill Rogers of Thompson, Utah, and Max Howard Young of Moab. He was born on July 16, 1980, in Boise, Idaho. Lucas is survived by his par- ents; his sisters Marjorie and Elise; hia brothers Michael, Jake, Dusty, Travis, Christopher and Robert Myles; brother-in-laSchraft; and by numerous grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces who all loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers Marjorie Ellen Oliver Hill and Margie Marie Stocks Rogers, and by his grandfather Max Young. Lucas was enrolled at the Salt Lake City campus of the Utah College of Massage Therapy at the time of hia death. He was doing great in that program. Lucas loved life, loved Moab, and loved people, especially his large Conservation Association and the Adirondack Nature Conservancy. He was a man of humor and intellect who had a visionary and stubborn dedication to the creation of educational opportunities and the protection of the environment. In addition to his wife Marjorie, he was predeased by his wife Elizabeth in 1987; his daughter Ruth (Robin) Wilson in 1991; and Bates Wilson in 1983. He is survived by his daughters, Alida L. Currey of Grand Junction, Colo, and Elizabeth W. Lawrence of Elizabethtown, New York; granddaughters Lynn (Wilson) Chemushin and her children Cole and Marina of Arvada, Colo., and Anne L. Wilson and her husband Peter Q. Lawson and their son Bates of Moab. A memorial service was held Feb. 15, 2002 at the United of Church in Christ Elizabethtown, N.Y.
