The following are excerpti, written daughter-in-law- , by Kingsley's and grand-daughte- and were r, sent from Turkey to Moab via Spt. 13, 2001 Ive been glued to the set for the last couple of days. It's too incredible How ironic thst Im the one who staggers my v if its to Adana to avoid terrorists. It makes me feel both more and less v ulnerable at the same time More, because terrorism is more real, and less because compared to these actions, bumping off a couple of Americans in Adana is nothing. On the other hand, this may motivate some small-tim- e copy-catThe base, of course, responded as youd expect, and w ere just now allowed to use again. I hope. Still no school. Larry had left for a TDY to Germany Tuesday afternoon (before the attack NY time), but was able to fly commercially back to us by last night. I was afraid hed be stranded at Ramstein for a while. It kills me when they interview the child psychologists. Im sure those children directly connected to the tragedy, either by losing a relative or by seeing it happen, are traumatized Eut I have to drill it into my kids heads that this is a serious tragedy. I ve never seen this kind of attack on American soil in my 42 years! Yeah, yeah, but when do we get to play with our fnends again? Try as I might to emotionally disturb them, they re only traumatized by the interruption to their every-dalives. What? Our sports trip to Ankara is CANCELLED?! WHAT?! Our Turkish lesson is WHAT?! Our CANCELLED?! y household goods won't be delivered What? I cant gc outon Friday?! side? That w as New York! What does that have to do with me?! I think I've been watching too much coverage; Im starting to focus on just the depression, and not the hope or reconstruction. As I feared, too many Americans are having a hateful, bigoted reaction. I hoped this would be a rallying cry to greater righteousness and bonding. The rescue workers seem to be feeling that, but I dont know that the good feelings are reverberating across America as forcefully as the anger and hatred. Im so disappointed and even embarrassed when Arab Americans are threatened and beaten and their mosques are defaced. I wonder if people dont see a pattern in their bigotry. I wonder if those same people would dare say they disdain the notion of slavery. I want this to bring our pompous, American blaspheming attitude to its knees in humility, standing only when we face to properly seek our God to find answers to more important questions than, Who is the richest or most beautiful person in America today?".
