The low er court had sentenced the driving instructor for two years and eight month in prison. The appeals court ruled that is w as impossible to rape someone who wore tight jeans and sent the case back for retrial. The court also questioned why the victim waited several hours to tell her parents shed been attacked. In an effort to promote sexual violence awareness throughout the month of April, Seekhaven, along with other rape crisis centers in Utah are collecting comments about the jeans rape ruling on a pair of jeans to forward to the Italian Ambassador. Some of the comments w ritten on the pair of jeans include: If you dont hear yes, it's not consent, its rape, The definition of rape includes coercion not just force. No one should have to be raped twice once as a violent act, second in the courts. A few of the nationw ide protest activities during the month of April have cut out swatches of jeans and pinned them on shirts, and some have been wearing Jeans for Justice buttons, and others have sent photos of staff wearing and signing jeans to the ear-ol- d The district i ) has contracted with the Cali Moab students to hear motivational speaker share stories of abuse submitted by the Grand County Children's Justice Center In honor of April, Child Abuse Prevention Month, guest speaker Tiffany Barnes will be in Moab the week of April 23. Tiffany, a native of Salt Lake City, is a junior at the University of Utah who has traveled all over the county sharing her story of survival and triumph over abuse. After being abused by her stepfather, Barnes moved mothers home when as just 13 years old. She lived w ith a friend's family for a while and at 16 moved out on her own. Since then she has been supporting herself, continuing her education, and educating others. In 1998, Barnes began an organization called SHARE, Students Helping the Abused React and Empower. SHARE is a organization w hose main purpose is to stop the cycle of abuse. Their focus is to reach out and empower from her she Salleo. Letters and flyers have been forwarded to protesters in Italy to inform them of support from around the world. Ten white leghorn pullets were purchased from Grand Mesa Eggs in Grand Junction, and placed in the district coop on the west side of Moab. Bob Phillips, manager and entomologist for the district, said the specific location was chosen as the secure area w ith the highest likelihood of detecting virus activity.
