Six months was the maximum under sentencing rules. Thu'-s-damorning Robison began serving that sentence in the Grand County y Jail. The case drew statewide publicity as the fii at case in Grand County to be tried under Utahs hate crime statute. Robison was charged with e felony assault for haMoab couple an interracial rassing last New Years Eve at a Main Street convenience store. On the stand, Robison denied he was a white supremacist and said he only got out of the truck in response to something Colvin had said. According to court records, during the sentencing hearing, County Prosecutor Bill Benge presented let- - trial, a Monticello jury of eight deliberated one hour and forty-fivminutes then returned a guilty vere dict of simple assault with no enhancement. That verdict reduced the maximum sentence hate-crim- Robison could serve to six months in jail. The trial was transferred to Monticello in April during jury selection because Anderson ruled that Robison would be unlikely to receive a fair trail in Moab. In ruling to move the trial, Anderson cited the amount of media coverage of the case and pamphlets mailed to hundreds of Moab residents by a southern white supremacist organization. The flyers urged recipients to support Robison.
