The remark made by one of the party was that is the prettiest thing I have ever seen." On our way back irom our trip to the Bear Lake side of the range this individual again asked to have the privelege of stopping at Ricks Spring. We believe there are many tourists that drive through Logan canyon and never see that wonderful spring, just because there are no markers to point it out. Next year, according to the hopes of the centennial committee Utah will have the largest tourist trade in history and Logan and Cache Valley will naturally get a portion of it. It will be too bad if those visitors pass through here with out seeing some of the Our state outstanding natural beauties. will be very well advertised by the visitors of next year if they are properly impressed with what we have and the result of that advertising will bring thousands of visitors, the following years. May we again appeal to some, whose right it is to act, to have the beauty spots in In a recent Issue we called attention to the splendid way Montana has of giving: the necessary travel information along the miles of state roads. Places of danger to the motorest, places of interest, designation as to where good water is available, and the posting of the names of all rivers and creeks, are all valuable and interesting information to the traveler who has perhaps never passed that way before. There is not a marker of any kind there at the present time. There is a pole standing upon which the name plate was at one time attached but even that, if ever marked again, should be accompanied by a sign some 5(H) feet away on both sides to warn the motorist that they were near such a spot. Some will say strikes have held up production and crippled transportation. Some will say restrictions and regimentation have stifled business. Still others will say that Industry has been rebellious and un cooperative. But are these things not the results rather than the cause of our confusion? Isnt the cause simply that this country has indulged in a costly experiment in centralized control which is sometimes called "Planned Economy? Hasnt this planned economy meant that economic questions have been settled according to political judgment and for political reasons? In another ten years will we again have millions of Americans on relief or working on government projects at subsistence wages? The answer is squarely up to those who formulate our national policies. It national policies continue to punish business to cripple private enterprise there is no possibility of avoiding a disastrous unem-ployme- nt situation. Even those who work for the government, or depend on relief funds, can be paid only with money derived from private enterprise; government has no other source of income no other means of sustaining itself, anyone or anything. What we need, in fact, what we must have, is an immediate return to a free market where the consumer may exercise the right of choice and where his dollar is free to find its own value in goods and services, which, of course, is impossible so long aa any subsidies are in effect, or so long as any prices are regulated by any- thing other than supply and demand. This is a crucial year. All of the House and one third of the Senate are to be elected this fall. If a majority of those elected believe to Congress are free enterprisers in a free market then, in my judgement, well really go to town on recovery and trade channels will shortly thereafter be filled with all kinds of goods. On the other hand, if a majority of the new Congress are exponents of planned believe in price controls, subeconomy sidies and a restricted market then, I headed we be will for by far the believe biggest smash the world has ever known.
