There has not been fur many months, and we may say many years, an announcement made that has caused so much talk as has been going on since the news hxs spread in relation to the announced action of the Hoard of Trustees of the Utah State Agricultural College in asking for the resignation of President Ulmer (J. Peterson. There has yet been given no positive reason for the action taken. The members of the i have not divulged the cause officially and this has naturally caused much speculation on the part of the public. We feel that the public is now entitled to know the reason. Has the action been taken because of personal dislike to the President of the college; has it been taken because of administrative policies not to the liking of the members; or has it been taken with a much deeper and more subtle motive growing out of the apparent desire upon the part of certain groups in the state to take from the college many of its present courses? There may have been a fusion of all three possible reasons that has manifested itself among the board members but there are many of our citizens who are ascribing the real cause to be the latter one mentioned. Almost as long as the college has been a college efforts have been made to hold its curricula down to the teaching of subjects relating directly to agriculture, but the men and women whose interests are with the proper development and expansion of the institution have held and do now hold that a student with the ultimate goal of agricultural pursuit, whether it be for actual farming activities are for the teaching of subjects relating to it should have the privilege of studying commerce, grammar, mathematics, history, geography, science and art, if he or she chooses to, within the confines of the institution itselfWhatever the motive or motives, the situation, in our opinion, is a grave one. With few exceptions the sentiment of Logan and Cache Valley citizens seem to be one of general dissatisfaction regarding the action taken by the board. lio.-m- tiu-i- r levu.Moii annual Linn day.
