OCTOBER 27, 1933 PROCLAMATION UNION PACIFIC By .MAYOR A. G. LUNDSTROM NAVY 51.50 per Year OLD TIERS Center Street NAVY DAY TO i TO BE WELCOAIED TO LOGAN DAY 62 West FOR ELECTION FEATURE There Is a dual reason for celebrating Navy Day on October 27th. Is the anniversary of an important event in the early history of the Navy, and It is the birthday of a man, much of whose life wps devoted to advancing a sound naval policy for the United States It II Theodore Roosevelt. Navy Day was first celebrated In 1922 under the sponsorship of the Navy League of the United States. Since that time other orgmlzations have Joined In the celebrations, and with the cooperation of the Navy Department, the part that the sea service has played in our history and its present peace-tim- e work a"e recalled ouch year. The primary purpose of the observation of Navy Day Is to bring Into prominence the Importance of this great arm of our National Defense; to stimulate In the minds of our people an appreciation of the sendee It has rendered our country in the past, end an understanding of Its present needs In order that It may maintain its glorious history In the future should occasion require. With this idea is associated the thought expressed by President Coolidge: Our country represents nothing but peaceful Intentions, but It ought not to fail to maintain such amuitaty loice as comports with the dignity and security of a great people. It should be so conducted that ail the world may see In it but an Instrument of security and peace. THEREFORE, I. ANDREW Q. LUNDSTROM, Mayor of Logan, Utah, do hereby designate and set apart Thursday October 27, 1938 as Navy Day, and request the citizens of this community to unite In observance of the occasion, by displaying the flag of the United States Of America, and by appropriate exercises wherever pratcioable.
