Sorghum is Good Drouth Crop Aurut t on flint (arm Notice to Creditor! lt ur-pt- It ha been noted all over the slate thla year that wherever a been orghum ha variety of grown. It ha coma through the drouth In better condition than any other crop, aaya J. C. Hogen-aoextenloi agronomist of the Utah State Agricultural college. The sorghum crop I more nearly normal than any other crop despite the extreme drouth. The various varieties of sorghum make a good feed for farm animals. Sorghum may be fed aa fodder or may he put Into an upright or trench ailo and fed aa ensilage, taking the place of corn. It la nutritious and animal like it. The varieties adapted to our longer season rountiee such as the northern part of the state and Including Carbon and Millard eountie. are Red Amber and Dwarf Hegari. The Red Amber Is a tail growing, sweet tem variety and produces the most forage per acre. It Is usually planted in rows two and a half feet apart and six Inches apart in the row. The Dwarf Hegari is a tillering variety that gives a wonderful yield of both fodder and grain. A mixture of these two varieties In the silo makes the best ensilage because one is a sweet variety and the other is not. For our shorter season counties a variety sueh as the Dakota Amber, which is a black seeded, sweet stemmed variety, will mature and produce a good crop of palatable, nutritious feed, either as dry fodder or ensilage. but rather, over possible unwarranted spread between prlrea reand prices ceived by farmers Dr. Howe paid by consumers. sas, "Farmers are still getting only a little more than a third of the consumer's food dollar compared to the years from 1924 to 1929 when they received almost half. In gelling a lair allure of the consumer's dollar lo the farmers, part of the problem is keeping marketing costs (rum rising substantially." Dr. Howe says that tome fool prices will undoubtedly rise, partly in line with usual seasonal changes and partly because of drougtb-reduce- d supplies, but supplies of so manny foods will be normal or above and the rest so near normal that no one need fear shortage.
