Show UINTAH BASIN RECORD Thursday. November Under The Capitol Dome Square Dance Ends With Excitement By Harry Marlowe Mrs. Dorothea Morton visited in Salt Lake City over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. George Merritt have bought the Clair Wilson home east of Duchesne. They moved into their new home on Engagement Of Helene Try as they might, Utah just cant seem to rid themselves of the problem of educational needs versus the Hemphill Told Every legislature in recent memory has struggled, none too successfully, wuth the problem. The 1953 legislators, in their special session, came up with about as good an answer as yet been reached. But, the legislators who will take their seats under the cap-itdome come January 10th will still have some real problems to mull over along educational lines. All of these problems, or most of them at any rate, have to do, naturally with money. One of the biggest headaches is going to be fitting the states anticipated revenue into the requested expenditures for the coming biennium. If the sales tax holds up, anticipated sales tax revenues will take care of welfare needs, and still enough left to make up deficits dn the general fund, giving to state agencies the money they have requested for biennium. the 1955-5But, this time of figuring, pleasant though it may be does not take into consideration several items, most of them concerned with education. For one thing, the 1953 special session solved toe problem of paying the states share of the expanded school program by allocating some $13,000,000 from the sales tax surplus. are some cuts Unless per biennium. The legislators voted to transfer 3 junior colleges to toe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints and to discontinue Carbon College The people of Utah made it very plain last election day that they did not want to lose the junior colleges. So. the legislators of 1955 will have to find money to operate these schools which the 1953 legislators thought they had disposed of. To get money to operate the $3,000,000 rs states finances. Saturday. 18, 1954 The Duchesne Square Dance dub held a dance in toe stake house on Friday evening. Refreshments were enjoyed by 16 members. The evening was ended with a lot of excitement when it was discovered that gas was being stolen out of toe cars, and the culprits were surprised in the act.
