Nye c, Mrs. Maxwell Tells Of Her Trip An interesting report of her trip to Kanab, where she attended the Postmasters convention in May, has been received from Mrs. Jessie Maxwell, who has been postmaster in Tabiona for approximately 30 years. She made a two hour airplane trip over the Grand Canyon and into' Arizona, seeing many historical and picturesque places from the air, including Short Creek, which has been in the news so much this last year, and Pike Springs, which was the last outpost established by Brigham Young. The homes of i in Indians the Grand Canyon, were especially interesting. Only pack mules can get to them a quonset hut they use for a school house was flown in by helicopter, piece by piece. There are 25 houses there. They also flew over the Glen Canyon Dam site, Lees Ferry, Navajo Indian reservation, Kaibab Forest, and Bright Angel Lodge at the mouth of Grand Canyon. Mrs. Maxwell says the pilot of the plane, flew the Hump into China, during World War II, with Trevor Michie, of Tabiona who 'also was a pilot of a transport flying supplies into China. They also enjoyed special bus trips through the Southern Utah parks, as well as the banquets, trips to movie locations, etc., and other activities designed for the entertainment of the visiting postmasters. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jensen are driving a new Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Bird received word of a new granddaughter, born to Mr. and Mrs. Leland O. TABIONA RELIEF SOCIETY LEARNS NEW SKILLS An interesting work day was held recently during the Relief Society meeting in Tabiona under the direction of work counselor, Mrs. Ina Van Tassell, and work directors, Mrs. Elva Van Tassell. Beginning at 10 oclock, the ladies made stoles and quilted. In the afternoon, Mrs. Rhea Gardner, of the USAC Extension Service, and County Home Demonstration Agent Mary Lois Reichert, held a demonstration of home decorating. Several from Hanna attended the demonstration. ; A party for all who have helped on the building of the new church at Tabiona was held evening, beginning Monday with a supper and featuring a program and film, under the direction of the Relief Society. Mrs. and Mrs. Lowell Clements, of Duchesne, were specially honored guests. Mr. Clements has been in charge of the construction, which is now nearing completion. Mrs. Sarah Chatwin and son, Wallace, were recent Roosevelt visitors. Mr. and Mrs.' Lou Hackford and family are visiting at the Curtis Jones home. Ross Wadley, who has been employed in Pueblo, Colorado, is now home to spend the summer months with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Wadley. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Richins were among the Vernal visitors on Decoration Day. Mrs. Sara White motored to Salt Lake City recently, where she attended the Jackson Day dinner at the Hotel Utah, as a delegate from Duchesne County. There were 1200 present and a most impressive occasion she reports. She also attended the reception for Mrs. G. Men-ne- n Williams, at the Ladies Luncheon at the Grotto. Mr. and Mrs. Alva Defa and family and Mrs. Ruby Roberts and son, all of Salt Lake City, were weekend guests at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Defa. Elsie Bird Attend Party :: Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Defa were recent visitors in Salt Lake City, where they attended the wadding of their son, Basil, and Miss Marjorie Lewis, in the Salt Lake Temple. Marjories parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Lewis, also attended the temple ceremony. Mrs. Myrna Fabrizio, Miss Nye and Miss Linda Lee Thomas entertained during the program at the bridal shower honoring Mrs. Basil Defa Saturday. A large crowd attended the wedding dance Saturday evening honoring Mr. and Mrs. Basil Defa. Several numbers were enjoyed on the program during intermission, with Miss Linda Lee Thomas as mistress of ceremonies. Robert Lee sang a solo, accompanied by Mrs. Amber Carter; W. Grant Peel sang a solo, accompanied by Mrs. Rel-l- a LeFevre; Misses Pleasy Lewis, LaMay Roberts and Carole Defa sang a trio, and Darreld Josie, of Salt Lake City, sang two numbers. Ircaclia Mrs. ! Calif. The little Miss weighed in at 4 lbs. 5 oz. and will be known as Cynthia Lee. All concerned are doing nicely. Mr. and Mrs. Warden Olsen and son, Kim, returned home after spending a few days visiting in Neola at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Olsen. Mr. and Mrs. Horace Chatwin moved to Salt Lake, where they will make their home. Mr. and Mrs. Hale Holgate. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Holgate, Mrs. Vera Larsen went to Mr. and Mrs. Darreld Josie and family, of Salt Lake City, were guests at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Josie, during the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Graethl, of Provo, were greeting friends in Tabiona, Saturday evening Mrs. Graethl, will be remembered as the former Miss Mary Ann Maxwell, and a sister of Mrs. Darreld Josie, the former Emma Jean Maxwell. Among the recent visitors at the Nephi Chatwin home were Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Thompson and family and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Turnbow and family, of Heber; and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Clark and family and Mrs. Vendetta Clark, of Altonah. Mrs. Howard Gilbert, of Roosevelt, was visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nello Hicken, recently. ENJOYS TRIP Miss Irene Thomas, of Salt Lake City, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jep Thomas, is enjoying a vacation trip to the Hawaiian Islands this month. She reports it one of the most beautiful places you could ever hope to see, according to her first letter received by her parents. She will visit her brother, Royal, who is stationed there with the U. S. Navy, and will also visit other servicemen from Tabiona and vicinity, who are stationed there. She also hopes to see the former Vida Giles, who is living there with her husband, who is also in the service. We will be glad to hear a report of her trip from Irene .when she gets back, and also' hope she gets to see our own son, Ted D., who has been in the hospital there. Mr. and Mrs. Llye Fraugh-to- n and family, of American Fork, were guests at the Lee Wagstaff home during the Decoration holiday. Mrs. Erycel Nye and family, of Midway, and Mrs. LaRhea Smith, were guests at the Fay Lefler home during the Decoration holiday. IMPROVEMENTS MADE Considerable work has been done on the Tabiona Cemetery this year, which made for a pleasing appearance and much less work for those who came to visit the graves of their loved ones. The brush had been cleared and a water line with twelve water taps installed along the main driveway. The water is piped from the canal which borders the east side of the cemetery. A caretaker and a little more interest could now make the Tabiona Cemetery one of the nicest in the state. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Young were Vernal visitors during the Decoration Day weekend. Mrs. Jessie Maxwell and Miss LaRena Nye motored to Roosevelt Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Nye and family, of Granger, and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Nye and family, of Clearfield, were overnight visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Nye during the Decoration weekend. Miss Patsy Nye, of Clearfield, has been a guest at the home of her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Wagstaff, during the past week. Glade Nye, of Clearfield, visited with Carl John Nye during the past week. Ira Hamilton, who is employed in Moab, spent the Decoration weekend with his family in Tabiona. Recent guests at the Elvin Lewis home include Mrs. Eula Carver, Little Rock, Arkansas; Mrs. Grace Turnbow, Salt Lake City; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lewis and family. Salt Lake City; Mr. and Mrs. Dee Lewis and family, of Kimberly, Idaho; and Dr. and Mrs. Frank Brown, of Salt Lake City. Grant Peel, of Arcadia, attended the wedding dance Saturday evening. The road over Wolf Creek Summit is now reported open and in fairly good condition. Travelers over Wolf Creek reported some snow fell Sunday from Johnsons Sawmill down the other side to the Hewlett Ranch. But the road is in fine condition and should see a lot of travel when fishing season opens next weekend. Some crops have been hurt by the last frost in this vicinity.
