Eisenhower ended federal ban on the sale of firearms and firewater give full American citizenship to the Indians. In most states the presidents signature on the bill regulating sale of liquor to Indians makes it possible for the Redman to purchase liquor or beer in retail stores where the products are dispensed. But thats not the case in Utah. Regardless of the language and the federal bill now in effect, Utah has a law on its statutes books that forbids selling liquor in any form, or at any place to an Indian. . . And there just isnt anything anyone can do about it not even the President of the United States nor Governor Lee. It will take a special act of the Utah Legislature when they meet in regular session, (unless the governor would call a special session), to repeal the law. So it looks like members of the various Indian tribes living in Utah, who are imbued with the desire to imbibe, will have to wait until sometime in 1955, that is if the legislature should feel inclined to repeal the existing law. v E v Free speech does not seem to include anything that displeases a minority these days.
