Mrs. Peck and Mr By Mrs. Jennie Graham A NEW BUSINESS OFFICE AND APARTMENT Mrs. Helen Mott is at home again in her new Duchesne County Abstract Company office. It is much larger than the old office and more pleasant and colorful. The walls are finished in a soft ocean green while the floor is a sun tan, There was a large bouquet of pink peonies from her own flower garden on a small table. She looked very attractive herself in a pink blouse and sweater and her sweet smile as she spoke of the plaseure of having the office remodeled and the apartments built which adds much to the appearance of the town, and the courthouse area. Mrs. Mott has high hopes for a larger and brighter future for the city of Duchesne and the Uintah Basin. As one of the business houses and friends of the city, The Uintah Basin Record wishes to congratulate you on your new place of work. Winterton Brothers were hauling some of their cattle out to the summer range on the Strawberry last week. As the loaded trucks stopped, to get gas and information of the trucks ahead or still to come, Main Street rang with a western sound of bawling cows and two-tone- d calves. We asked Claire this question Guess it saves you folks much time to take the herd to the range by truck rather than to have the big drive? He responded with this answer: Yes and no. It sometimes takes weeks to get the cows and calves together again for in the trucks, the calves rub against each other so they all smell alike. Then the mothers wont claim their calves. Then we have to find the tags, for each cow and her calf have the same number. Then we have to pen them up together until she will claim her own flesh and blood, and even then some cows are so afraid they might not have their own calf, they wont take any Then you are left with a bawling calf on your hands. For me, I would take the Big Drive with its heat and noise and dust. When I called Mrs. Verle Ivie to find out about their trip, she answered, Oh it was a wonderful trip. We were in Seattle, Washington, San Francosco, Oregon, Nevada and Idaho, all in nine days. We had taken Hal, Dennis and Carolyn with us and left the twins with mother, Mrs. Warren Mecham. Yes, the twins came down with the measles and the children I had with me had them, too, so we had to cut the trip rather short. My sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. M. Wilkerson and daughter Rae, and my sister, Cloe, drove in their car. Of all the lovely sights I still feel that Salt Lake City was the most beautiful, and It is a right good feeling to be in Duchesne and home again Sagers are Mrs. Shields sister and brother. He, his brother, Paul, and Gale Williams were riding on a tractor near Leland Stevensons ponds. The gun, supposedly unloaded, discharged when the tractor went over a big bump. The bump threw David off the tractor into the path of the bullet, which entered the upper calf of his right leg and came out above the ankle.
