Operations in Duchesne Coun- ty are playing an important role in giving the state a new place in the sun in petroleum development. At the present time, the Carter Oil Company is drilling three wells in the county. Two are wildcats and the third is a pool well, an offset to the pool opener, Duchesne-Ut- e Tribal No. 1. That well, brought in last summer, has produced more than 37,000 barrels of oil in its first nine months of operation. It also has spearheaded additional activity and it is on this basis of the extended search for more productive areas that Duchesne County is banking on making substantial contributions to the states oil progress. The first week in May, Carter announced location for the No. 1 Elmer Moon wildcat aix miles east of the Duchesne pool and about 8 miles east of Duchesne. This well will be drilled 8,000 feet and is in the center of the NWWSEVi of Section 8, Township 4 South, Range 3 West of the Uintah Special Ba8e and Meridian, Duchesne County. It will test the upper Wasatch formations. Drilling operations are now below 6500 feet in the No. 1 Willis Moon well, a wildcat. The Duchesne Ute Tribal No. 2 well, not yet completed, but now in the testing stages, flowed 118 barrels of oil in 1 hours from 7,661 feet. It was plugged back after drilling a total depth of 11,317 feet by Carter. The Ducheane-Ut- e Tribal No. 1 well, which has given the county its total production to date, currently is producing from 60 to 70 barrels of oil daily.
