Mrs. er AIYTON William Zowe, former Alyton postmaster, celebrated his 80th birthday anniversary Thursday, October 31 at his home at 470 N. Redwood Road, Salt Lake City. Mr. Zowe was bom Oot. 31, 1866 In Berlin, Germany. He came to the United States at the age of 14, serving as a sailor a merchant ship and for the following two years worked as a merchant seaman. In 1882 he decided to make his home in the U. S. During .the 1890s he worked in the mines of Colorado dnd was a prospector in many parts of that state. He came to Utah in 1904 and homesteaded near Myton. He was married to Wilhelmina Dorff In 1908. Her family also were homesteaders in .this vicinity. For eighteen years he was a merchant in Myton and then became postmaster where he served ... th pU1C for yeafs He then retired to his farm on north Alyton bench where his wife died in 1936. He sold his farm in 1942 and moved .to his present address. He is a member of the Masons, , having joined the Uintah Basin Lodge in 1918.
