Crystal and William Gines of Aamas spent Sunday visiting with Mr. and TWOS COMPANY - By Collier - . r tU J' A Most Eventful Week The week just past has been one of the most eventful in world history, and one which should cause every citizen of this great nation to be reverently thankful to God for the protection which we have, and that the great discovery announced this week was made by our scientists rather than by the forces opposed to us. We can indeed be greatful that the announcement of the discovery of the atomic bomb came from President Truman rather than from Hirohito or some of the Nazi forces. And the later announcement of Russias efttry in the war against the Japs is another thing that we can he most thankful for. The discovery and use of the atomic bomb will undoubtedly shorten the war, and assure us that many of our hoys who otherwise would lose their lives in the battles necessary to subdue the Japs will return to us. Those who make a careful study of the Bible can readily see the Divine Providence so plainly manifest in the pei footing of this atomic bomb by our scientists, rather than by those who would destroy if they could not rule supreme. Had the Nazis been left a little longer undisturbed, or had their scientists worked as loyally for them as did ours, the Nazis would possibly have perfected this terrible weapon. With this added power of destruction in our hands comes an added responsibility. We must not lose sight of the fact that this tremendous power of destruction could be turned against us by a comparatively small nation or group of evil men, and for our own safety we must see to it that justice and fair play is the basis of the world peace. If fair dealing and friendliness is developed throughout the world this great pew power can bring happiness and prosperity to the people of the world in a manner previously thought impossible, and we can then look for an era of peace on earth, but unless the hatreds which have grown during the past decade are diminished we may be soon engulfed again in another destructive struggle which will make this present war seem mere childs play. The entry of Russia into the war against Japan further assures the shortening of that contest. It also proves that Russia has acted in goou faith, and that as soon as she was able to transfer her forces from the European struggle she has come to our assistance. Let us endeavor to understand Russia and her people. She is a power to be reckoned with in the world today, and is entitled to a lot of consideration for her part in the great struggle which now looks so favorable for our side. and Mrs. J. H.
