ELECTION DAY NEXT TUESDAY It is hard for Americans, who have had the privilege of voting for so many years that we hardly remember that there was a time in our history when voting rights went with property ownership, and only male property ownrs had the right to vote only male property owners had the right to vote to realize the sense of obligation and duty which accompany the privilege of the ballot. Paradox Lai as it may be, with the extension of the privilege of voting has come a cheapening of that right in "the eyes of many, until now there are elections held in which less than half of our citizens exercise their right to vote. If, however, they were told that they would not be allowed to vote any more, and that some dictator would attend to that, they would undoubtedly then be willing to make sacrifices, even to risk their lives in order to regain that right F Fay Roberts Mr. and Mrs. Bert Sweat announce the birth of a son, August 4th, at the home of Airs. ED. H. WATSON, STATE ENGINEER. - The war in Europe will not last much longer. And when the combined forces of the United Nations is brought to bear on Japan it will not be very long until final victory is achieved against that enemy. This will be especially true if Russia throws her weight into the conflict with us. It is more than probable that Russia will do this, as she has a deep seated score to settle with those barbarians. They started a war against Russia some years ago with a sneak attack similar to to the one they used against us at Pearl Harbor. In that war Russia went down to a humiliating defeat, and also lost a great deal of territory, which she could quickly regain by joining the allies in their struggle against Japan. The battles of this war will soon be finished, but the most important part of the war will come after the fighting is over. Part of that will be adjusting our domestic affairs putting our nation on a basis where we can live and pay our obligations. This will require the best and wisest statesmanship of our nation, and unless we get that we will face a grat deal of misery and sorrow. It is never easy to pay our debts, and this will be no exception. We must use our best efforts to see that honest, carful men are elected to lead in the affairs of our nation.
