COUNTY AGENT EXPRESSES APPRECIATION In reporting on final preparations for the Basin Short Course Encampment at Moon Lake, early this week, Carl Davis, Duchesne county agricultural complimented Duchesne City and Duchesne STRAWBERRY civic organizations for their fine cooperation in sending 5 men to assist in preparing the grounds for By Komanza Mott the event. A great difference has been accomplished in the appearance of the entire city through this work, Air. Davis said, which he was highly gratified to see, and which should go far toward building for Duchesne the standing and reputation which its citizens desired and to which it is entitled. We appreciate this interest on the part of our county agent, and his thoughtfulness in expressing it to us. WE LIKE PROMISES IN BLACK AND WHITE Amidst the hue and cry of the many political candidates now in the field, bidding for support at the coming elections we see a surprisingly small of material in print. Stumping in person and over the radio seems to be the favorite pastime for most of our political aspirants. This is fine; we like to see our candidates face to face, to shake their hands and hear their voices, but we sometimes get a little confused by oratory and first impressions and we like to be able to have concrete statements in black and white that we can reread and study and thus compare one candidate ambitions and promises with those of another. We like to be able to have something to tie them to, for promises and statements made from the speakers platform and over the air vanish as fast as they are spoken and all we can retain is an impression which anyone can at any time declare as wrong. We are glad to pin our political faith on a candidate who is so sure of his facts, so willing to stand on them and so proud of them that he is willing to put them down for us to study and retain and refer to as often and as long as we like. Such a candidate is not apt to make very many misleading statements. Primary Election Is Nominating Election In spite of all that has been said and printed concerning the new Primary law and the experience we had two years ago under this law there are still a surprising number of voters who still seem to be entirely unimformed about this system of nomination. Perhaps that is the first point these confused voters need to understand-th- at the primary Septemn run-off ber and the primary October 1 are not for the purpose of electing to office, but are strictly for the purpose of nominating candidates for the regular election in November. In other words, the primary and run-of- f primary merely perform the function which has previously been performed by the party Mr. W. J. Williams made a trip to Heber City Thursday returning Friday.
