CATTLE AND CALVES: Re ceipts in the cattle yards this week totaled 2,509 head, as compared with 1,386 a wreek ago and 926 a year ago. Trading was on a moderate basis at strong to slightly higher prices. Odd lists of medium to good local steers moved within a range of 7.50-8.5- 0 and common steers, including some light Stockers, at 5.50-7.2Medium to good slaughter heifers went at 6.25-8.2- 5 and common heifers at 5.75-6.5The best can-neat 4.65 down. Medium, to good bulls were sold at 5.50-6.5Good and choice veal calves brot 10.75-12.0- 0 and cull to medium vealers made HOGS: The recent upward trend in the hog market continued this week, but on a more moderate basis, with a rise of above last weeks close. Good .to choice 180 lb. to 230 lb. butchers topped the list at 6.35, with the bulk going at 6.20-6.3Weights under 180 and over 230 lbs. went with extreme mostly at kinds going at 5.60 down. Packing sows brought 3.25-4.5SHEEP: The weeks receipts in the sheep division numbered 5.862 head, compared with 11,504 last week and 26,010 last year. Among the weeks arrivals were 35 decks, or 5,164 head of new crop California lambs. The seasons run of Californias now number 109 decks, or 16,432 head, while a year ago at this time, the figures show that 393 decks, or 59,796 head had arrived. A truck load of light native springers changed hands on the local market on a steady basis at 9.50. Trucked in old crop shorn lambs were sold at 7.00-7.5-0 and a few good local ewes at 8.00 per heed.
