The water held in Lake Mead at this time would cover the State of West Virginia almost a foot deep. Lakh Mead extends 108 miles up the Colorado River from Boulder Dam through Black, Boulder, Travertine, Iceberg, and ino the lower and tmvisited end of the Grand Canyon. Since January 1st, this year, more than 1,000 persons per day have visited the dam and lake. In 1931, when construcUon of Bonlder Dam began, there were no Toads to the site, which had been visited by no more than a handful of people In history. In 1934, before the diversion tunnels were closed at Boulder Dam, a major drought occurred in the irrigated areas along the lower Colorado River when the stream all but ceased flowing in midsummer. Crop losses totaling mere than 110,000,000 resulted. The danger of this disaster ever recurring has been removed by storage of water in Lake Mead. Since the diversion gates were closed in 1935, three major floods, one each year, have been poured against Boulder Dam by the erratic river, but the flow below the dam has been regulated to the needs of water users on the lower river who forever have been released from the danger of Inundation. The story of The Thirteenth Chair, coming Friday and Saturday to the Capitol Theatre, calls for a seance which was filmed entirely in the dark. Although the camera was focused on thirteen people grouped about a table, naturally nothing registered on the film in the intense blackness. But the sound men had plenty to do, for during this whole sequence which played for three minutes in Stygian gloom, the actors were speaking lines. For those not acquainted with n sound recording procedure, the has a sensitive microphone mounted on the end of a boom which he swings about from player to player just out of camera range. As each player speaks his lines and finishes, the mikeman rapidly projects the microphone to the next speaker. It is obvious that during a rapid-fir- e conversation between several actors, the "mikeman must move with lightning-lik- e speed and with extreme precision. The cast includes Dame May Whitty, Madge Evans, Lewis Stone, Elissa Landi, Thomas Beck, Henry Daniell, Janet Beecher, and Ralph Forbes.
