Stern BE EXHIBITED and not destructive Constructive is needed in the what is criticism jaw as well as all other lines of endeavor. majority of the states have suppressed their trial judges rights and duties to act as judges, and have made them mere moderators. When judges are permitted to advise the jury on facts, or to express their opinions on questions of fact, there will be less criticism of the law courts. The principle of caveat emptor is more appropriate to legal advice than to dry goods. Every lawyer endowed with knowledge has power. Many people say they have never seen a pair of clean hands in court. Too often are false hopes raised in the hearts of those who have fallen into the clutches of the law. A lawyer speaking to a jury in a breach of promise suit said of the defendant, If you remove his shirt you will find plainly written across his back, 'Without recourse." Aggies' great center, in action this year are acclaiming him one of the greatest linemen in the history of the Rocky Mountain Conference. The Aggie star seems to have everything speed, size, power, and football sense. He was selected on most teams last season, but his play this year has been so brilliant that It has completely any of his past over-shadow- ed performances. Ward came up to Aggies from the Elder high school, where he had been something of a star both on the line and in the backfield. John Vranes was holding down the center Box enjoy ELECTRIC position during Wards first varsity year, and Coach Dick Romney used the big fellow at tackle. He drew him back, however, when he emn ployed a line, and his defensive play in this position, coupled with his center training in high school, convinced Coach Romney that Ward would be a great center. Allconference honors in his first year at the position demonstrated the wisdom of the move. The Aggies have had a great many able, courageous linemen, but many of them have been lacking in size. Ward is really big. He has the fight and courage of his smaller predecessors plus thirty, forty or fifty extra pounds, and the added power those pounds give- He is the ideal center six-ma- - COOKING for the modern game of football. His passing on offense is practically faultless and he has such speed that he frequently passes the ball ta the punter and then beats the ends down the field to make the tackle on the receiver. His greatest value however, is on defense. His tackling is deadly, and even more important he diagnoses the rivals play with uncanny accuracy. He can also intercept passes, and he isnt the easiest man in the world to bring down after he has grabbed one. Indeed, he would be a star in most backfielyds because of fiis speed, size and ball handling ability. Those who saw his work at Denver and have followed him in every succeeding game are tooting him as the best lineman in the con ference. For the first time, Aggies have a lineman who is definitely entitled to the highest national honors.
