There are many kinks to straighten out and the player a ho attends to these little details before the actual round of the links begins Is going to be rewarded before the season many weeks old. 1 would suggest that the awing be attended to first of all. If one has a poor form if la time to change for a better one. Any old change la worth trying. The golfer who cannot break a hundred la taking little' or no chance with his style of trying something new, The Indoor schools have been turning out some very good golfers. Among them are players who learned the awing before they attempted to hit a ball on the golf course. Others who patronize the school indoors are those who wish to do the very thing that I recommended in the first part of thla article Change the swing while there is yet time. When a golfer plays all of his life in bad form, ad that ia left of his golf la a regret. If one has not the opportunity to engage a professional I would suggest that he .start the season by experimenting a little in his own way. Practice counts a lot. In. April, and early May. The temptation to play around Is great and a fellow,. Is not always able to resist 1L When John Jones goes down to the practice tee to hit a few drives and work out with the other dubs hla whereabouts is soon discovered by some of the club members who need him to fill out a foursome. Jenes IQ easily persuaded. He enters the foursome and the practice play goes by the boards. if one has a lawn in the back or 1 I know an enthusiastic golfer who learned to swing a club well by daily practice In hi back yard. He discovered on day a rug hanging on th clothes line. This suggested an idea to hlrri and h immediately put it into operation. He teed the ball bo that every shot, good or bad, went into th rug and fell dead in front of it. At first It ra a but he soon began to realise novelty, that it was a benefit to bis game. The drive landing in the rug could be gauged to a nicety and the bad could be separated from the good quite easilv. Maahie play cajg be had without any trouble and with great profit. One need not have room to hit a long mashie or mashie niblick shot to get results from pract.ce As long as one hits a ball right, the practice will do a great deal towards improving his shots. The principle of hitting a golf shot can be learned with the putter just as welt as with any other club Those who putt firmfv and who hit the back of the cup with a thump every time ab bttialiythe ones who hit the longest drives and the best iron shots. If one will take out a mashie much can be learned in a few hours. Enough fun can be derived from the ' MELPftO OVA0JC8M Nate Lewis announced today that Jock Malone was willing to fight anr middleweight to the world. Nate also said Malone would make 147 pounds to meet Mickey Walker for the welterweight title. proper stance end the right grip Some golfers only need to get a new grip working to change their whole system of swinging. There Is no better place than the back yard for thla If one wants to try a new stance he can do thla easilv In the )ard or in the room of his flat. " Putting can be learned on the rug at home and one does not nerd to have a country ho'ma for this. Take a dozen or so balls and place them on the floor and putt for an object It Is not necessary to have a cup. A mashie can be used as well as a putter and one can learn to jump a stymie quite easily. The method Is simple. I,et the club .run along the floor. The loft of the mashie will throw the ball high enough to clear the one In front of It. This Is a lot of fun. besides being very Instructive and profitable. If there is only enough space to hit the ball thirty or forty yards U will suffice. A very nice little chip shot can be developed and one can also learn, the art of pitching the bail into the air. These two shots, well learned and well executed, will take more strokes off one's game than anything elae. A shot that drops close by the pin each time Is going to be a big help! Not only are eome of them going to drop into the cup, but the fact that they are so close saves many a putt.
