The supreme court found certain forms af. leases used by the United States Machinery corporation to be in violation of the Clavton act after It had decided the lease did not violate the Sherman antitrust law. "The effect of the decree," the request stated. "If construed to make impossible (he continuance of the supervision of the United Shoe Machinery company over the products creating the existing good will of wearers toward the United Shoe Machinery company, would be to deprive those consumers of their power to exercise their Inalienable rights of cholre." The proceeding in Its entirety Is novel and Is based upon the grounds that "the consuming public was not beard or authoritatively represented in the trial of the case. Means has sent out to the various counties in the state copies of the first Issue of the American Highway magastne, the official organ of the American Association of State Highway Officials. The Utah OH and Refining company has taken leases on much of the new land, and is making arrangements to get a rig Into the field as soon as possible, Mr. Free said. The leases are on land on both the north and the south sides of the San Juan river on what Is known as the l.lmerldge dome which extends 'rom township 42 south, range 20 east north to township 3S south, range 21 east. At present there are thirty-seve- n wells In the San Juan field on the north side of the river. The wella range In depth lrom 220 feet to 1200 feet. There have been oil dlscot eries In all of them. The Hudson well, which la owned by the Mexican Hat Oil company, .is more than 1000 feet deep and Is reported to be bringing In a good production. The oil from thia well has been refined on the ground and many automobile! and trucks In the field have used the gasoline obtained. The Areola well of the Areola Oil company has delivered 17,000 barrels which have been sold in thryflelds for fuel. Three large companies have bases in the field and two standard rigs are on the way. One will be used at a location on the Monument structure and the other on the Organ Rock structure. In addition to the Utah Oil and Refining company, a syndicate of Denver business men holds leases on a large tract and the American Bhell company has leased 40,000 acres In townsht?Il south, range IS and 14 east. Reports reaching Sait Lake are to the effect that the casing has been set in the Crescent Eagle well east of Green river and that drilling was resumed yesterday, A telegram from the ecene of operations said that there was a strong oil and gaa showing in the well, end that the driller believed he had reached the sand ft cm which there has been reason to expect production. e Special to The Tribute. Clark, general manager of the Monumental Oil company,' which Is sinking a test well on the Huikito structure in San Juan county, south of the San Juan river, was in Moab Tuesday on the way to the field in re- sponse to a wire from his driller stating that a heavy flow 6f gas had been encountered. Interested parties are of the opinion that the drilL Is on the caprock overlying the Areola sand. Colorado Buyers Offer Good Price for Calves Red,l - to The TrUmns- - Sept. 4. Colorado cattle buyers were in Montlceilo last week negotiating for 2000 weaner calves for October delivery. They offered 220 a head for eteers and $11 for heifer. Thayne, secretary of the Davis county bureau, states that about 25 cars a of onions will be ready for market within the next few weeks. E. E. Smith and Oeorge B. Mann of Woods Cross, two of ths heaviest onion growers In Davis county, conferred with the Commercial club committee relative to selling the crop, stating that they had been authorized to act for a majority of the growers. At the recommendation of the agricultural committee last fall the seed was shipped from overseas, to assure a uniform grade. Mir. Thayne explained to the committee that the Davis county soil was particularly adapted to the culture of fine onions. With ths proper cooperation that section of the state may become a leading onion growing section, he said. Instead of 85 cars, the crop next year should be not less than 850 cars, with shipment to all parts of the country, taking the place of the Imported graded onions. E. E. Conljlln, United States department of agriculture expert on onion gradand Heber J. ing and classification, Webb, state crops pest Inspector, attended the meeting. Plans were discussed to pack and ship this years crop under the proper classification, securing the highest grade possible and competing on the eastern market with the Imported onion, W. A. Overbeck, C. C. Glgnoux, David F. Smith and E. 8. Conklin were appointed on the special committee to confer with the Davis county farmers. Numerous bids have . already been rf eelved for these onions from 'all sections of .the country. The Joint committee will meet within the next few days and discuss plans for properly marketing the crop. All bids will be opened September 15, when the farm bureau onion pool expires. The pool may be continued, however, if conditions warrant. , Th stale of lTtah Is experiencing some trials and tribulations of a landlord. In connection with the proposed extension of the c&pitol grounds, the state some time ago purchased pioperty lying to the west of the present grounds, and on some of the lot so purchased dwelling and apartment, houses, aingto, doub4e were standing. The rate of rental which should be charged for thl property !ecame more or leas of an Issue about a ear ago. and the state thereupon, through Its board of examiners, obtained the advice of a committee of realtors as to the rental value of the property. Following the advice of the committee the rates then being charged were advanced, though not in all cases, to the figures set by the committee. The result was that some of the tenants then in possession of the property mo ed out. An apartment, and one side of a double house are vacant now. and have been for some time, and two more apartments will become acant in the near future.
