Bell Smelter Blowing In of the first furnace, a copper reverberatory, will be undertaken today at the Tooelp plant of the International Smelting company, according to Manager J. O, Elton. As It will take from ten days to two weeks to wfarm up the furnace, no attempt will be made to charge the furnace until June 13 to 15. Opacity operation will be possible about July I. About June 15 fires will be built under two lead blast furnaces. Inasmuch as the construction of lead furnaces permore mits rapid heating, the lead department of the smelter will be ready to undertake capacity reduction of ore and twenU-four concentrates about hours after blowing in. All old employees holding positions on July 1, 1921, will be given their old positions providing they apply for work within ten days after their departments start operations. However, Mr. Elton requests that such employees notify A. B. Young, superintendent of the Tooele smelter, of their wish for their iold positions. In order that thev may be Informed of the date when their services will be needed. This precaution is being taken by smelter officials in order that old employees need not lose time and money by returning to Tooele before their services are needed. When operations are up to capacity, about 450 men will be employed by the company. Concentrates are being shipped from the Walker mine In Plumas county at (he rate of fiftv tons daiiv. At this there is stored for shipment property about 7000 tons of copper concentrates. Ore from other propertiee has been moving to the Tooele plant for weeks, and It is understood that a large stock pile has been built up. When operations are conducted at the Tooele plant at capacity, about 300 tons of copper ore and concentrates will be needed daily and about 400 tons of lead product. Although only one of the five copper reverberatorles will be used, the one will treat as much ore as the combined capacity of the five furnaces. That this Is practical Is explained by the fact that the Utah Consolidated Mining company, the chief copper shipper to the Tooeie plant. Instead of shipping crude ore, as In the paet. will ship from tts new mill a product with a concentration ratio of seven to one Five blast furnaces constitute the lead department of the plant.
