BY decision of the pubHo utilities commission, announced yesterday, the Denver A Rio Grande Western Railroad comr pany, through 'its Marysvale branch, is given equal opportunity with the Union Pacific system, through its service from Lund, to convey tourists to Utah's wonderland In the southern part of the state and to the Grand Canyon National park In northern Arizona. C. G. Parry, who already carries the commissions certificate permitting him to operate from Lund to Cedar brakes, Bryce canyon, Z.on National park and the northern rim of the Grand canyon., recelves the right to operate from Marysvale on the Rio Grande to the same points. The commission reached a decision after a hearing, held at Marysvale by Joshua Greenwood, member of the commission, who writes the report, President A. R. Hey wood and Commissioner Warren Stoutnour con. curring.' "It would appeal from the showing. eays the report in part, that the purpose of establishing a service such as is contemplated in the application is to encourage travel over the Denver ft Rio Grande Western railroad to southern Utah via Marrsvaier that such traffic has not been encouraged heretofore, and that in order to take care of tourists who wish to visit southern Utah and northern Arizona via Marysvale It would be necessary to establish and maintain Just such convenience as is contemplated by Mr. Parry; that it would not interfere with the already existing service (from Marysvale to Panguilch. operated by George E. Hanks), for the reason that travel taken care of by the proponed service would be entirely new to that section of the country; and. further, that without such convenience, there would be no means furnished by which the tourists could vlfclt the points of interest, as heretofore mentioned, and return to the rail... road. IfimkS Tnarte aTproposHIotrto Take care of the tourists from Marysvale to Panguitch, and there deliver them over for of rorrr veylng them around the loop and return to Panguitch. This proposition was not agreeable to the applicant, who said that he was required to enter Into an agreement with the railroad to meet all tourists coming over the Denver ft Rio Grande Western at Marysvale and transport them to the points of Interest vis., Bryce canyon, Cedar brakes, Zion canyon and the Grand canvon; that the rates fixed for said automobile trip and entertainment at tjie camps would be in connection with the railroad rates; that he was the only person holding the franchise or right of way into the - nations'! parks.. The application of Mr. Parry is allowed and he is required: m file his schedule and tariffs with the commission.
