M. Coe of the agricultural college, who conferred with Dr. E. M. Chace, the government research chemist. The celery is to be bleached by the use of minute quantities of harmless ethylene gas, used as an anesthetic by the medical profession, instead of by the slow and laborious method of covering with soil, now practiced, in experiments to be started in the very near future. This method is now In commercial use in many sections, and it only remains to determine its efficacy with n the product, which is a dark green type not hitherto bleached by this new process. Not only will the appearance of the Utah celery be made equal to Its quality, but growers will be able to double the yield and materially reduce the expense and hazard of growing the crop if the experiments are successful. At the present time, the rows must be spaced widely, to leave sufficient soil to cover the plants. With the bleaching being1 completed with ethylene, the rows can be spaced closer, thereby doubling the yield. The frost hazard will also be greatly reduced by digging the crop, regardless of the progress of bleaching in the field when cold weather Utah-grow- SUMMONS as ww Lowest Prices in Oar History With Earth.
