Mr. F. W. s The city officials, employees, and members of the fire department and their partners, enjoyed a swim and banquet Friday evening at the Weber Gymnasium in Ogden. More than sixty people attended the function, leaving this city in automobiles at about 5 oclock. Upon arriving at the Weber Gymnasium, swimming was enjoyed for an hour, after which a sumptuous hot chicken dinner was served at long tables in the dancing hall by a committee composed of Mrs. .Jessie B. Jensen, Miss Eliza Thompson and Miss Trieste Box. Attractive place cards land favors adorned the tables and fall flowers were used In decorating. Mayor Abel S. Rich was master of ceremonies. He expressed pleasure in seeing so many present, and felt sure that the ties of friendship would be strengthened by mingling together. Community singing was led by Miss Blythe Evans. Toasts were responded to by former mayor,' Hervin Bunderson, Fire Chief Dan Petersen, Manager C. O. Roskelley, Attorney Lewis Jones, Marshal J. R. Evans, Councilmen C. W. MerreR and Emery Reese. Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Van Buren of Ogden were guests of the evening. Drilling Tests. The annual convention of the Box Eider stake Y. L. and Y. M. M. I. A Associations was held In this city on Sunday, with an afternoon and evening session. The visiting speakers were Mrs. Marie Thomas of the I. A. General Board and Oscar A Kirkham iand Ernest P. Horsley of the Y. M. M. I. A General Board. Both sessions were largely attended and a spiritual feast was enjoyed by those participating In the convention. The afternoon session was held at the Third Ward chapel at 2 oclock. Joint work of the Mutuals was discussed following the opening exercises. Those attending then separated and took up the Immediate problems of their associations. The evening session convened at 7:30 oclock at the stake tabernacle. The meeting opened with singing, America, by the congregation; Invocation was offered by C. M. Petersen; a trumpet solo was rendered by Rodney Simonsen, accompanied by Byron Jensen, and a solo was given by Frank J. Kennard. Mrs. Marie Thomas gave a very Interesting and instructive talk on Leisure Time Activities. A solo was rendered by Mrs. L. A Richardson, followed by a comprehensive address on Law and Law Abidance' by Elder Kirkham, which was listened to with rapt attention. Following his remarks and congregational singing, benediction was prononuecd by Mrs. C. H. Skidmore. Y. L. M. - ' Mrs. J. A. Dewey Laid At Rest On Saturday Funeral services for jMrs. Lillian Loveland Dewey, who died Thursday last, were held at the Fourth Ward chapel Saturday afternoon at 2 oclock. Counselor O. G. Bargeron was in charge of the services, which opened with singing, Sometime Well Understand," by the choir. Invocation was offered by Nels Madsen, followed by a duet, The Morning Breaks, by Mr. and Mrs. Bert Gardner of Bear River. The speakers were C. J. Dewey of Deweyville, Howard Stokes of Harper, Bishop J. A. Fishburn, Hervin Bunderson of the stake presidency, Bishop A. M. Hansen and O. G. Bargeron. The special musical program consisted of a solo, Afterwards by Mrs. Bert Gardner of Bear River, and a duet, Day Follows Night, by Mrs. Morilla Spencer and Mrs. Callie Kofoed. The concluding number was Twill Not Be Long, by a solo, Mrs. Oallie Kofoed, and benediction was pronounced by James I. May of Honeyville. Interment was in the city cemetery. Ottis G. Bargeron dedicated the grave. Fire drill tests by the various schools of the city were made last week, under the direction of Chief Dan Petersen of the local fire department, as a part of the Fire Prevention Week program. Chief Petersen and 'a number of the firemen visited the Box Elder high school ou Thursday and after Inspecting the building and premises found everything In fine shape and free from fire hazards. Through the courtesy qf Principal F. A Hinckley, a teit drill was put over, and In a very short time the students of the big school, more than 1200 in number, had cleared the spacious building by way of the fire escapes and exits. Friday ' afternoon, at about 1:30 oclock, the firemen visited the Lincoln school, where they were courteously received by Principal Victor Bott. During a test drill, the building was cleared of Us pupils In about two minutes. From the Lincoln school, the firemen proceeded to the- Central school, where they were received by Principal Mont Harmon, who bade them welcome. The test drill at the Central was also (very successful !and the building was cleared in one minute and forty seconds. There are from 80 to 100 more students at the Lincoln school than those enrolled at the Central school, according to Chief Dan Petersen. The fire chief and members of the department talked to the students at the grade school on matters pertaining to fires and their prevention, and the students have given the fire question considerable attention during Fire Prevention Week. The Mutual Improvement Associations of the Third and Fourth Wards are featuring a very unique entertainment at the high school auditorium on Wednesday afternoon, October 17th and evening in the form of a vaudeville. A great deal of time and care has been spent In order to give a highly diversified program and from the numbers selected It promises to e be one of the entertainments of the season. Music for the occasion will be furnished by the high school orchestra. The first part of the program consists of a comedy revue with lots of singing and dancing girls. This will be followed by an Imported number from the Orpheum Circuit There will also be some good singing by the Bee Tee Glee Club, after which a pne-aplay will be presented. The Reed School of Dancing from Ogden will furnish: some special numbers followed by an imported group of singers from Weston, Ida. The5 prices are only 25c a piece and it is surely worth much more.
