Hinckley Explains Charges to Patrons. Since some patrons have asked for an explanation of the high school activity fee, I make the following statement: A number of years back the school charged laboratory fees for chemistry, physics, foods, sewing, shop, typewriting, etc, as many schools now do. To equalize these fees and provide recreation for the students, the Board of Education authorized a five dollar library, laboratory, activity fee. This has been used to buy books for the library, pay Incidental expenses for laboratories, run ithe school paper, make student bddy awards, jfurnish lecturers for the students on special subjects, pay for parties, athletics, and other social activities of the students, and to pay class fees. Some money has been used by the students to purchase pictures for the school to improve the campus and beautify the school bhilding. - The advantage of this fee is that it has greatly improved the library facilities for the students and has provided wholesome recreation and social education very much cheaper by doing it on a cooperative basis. Much more important than this it has made a unified student body, w'here all may participate, achieve and enjoy things together. If the fee wTere withdrawn, it would turn the school immediately into an advertising soliciting institution, where the students would be constantly solicited for everything that the students do in the extra curricular activities. It would divide students into two groups: (a) those xvho pay for and run the school paper, provide for the lyceuni. make the student and body awards, provide for athletics work, team and for school morale, and for the beautifying of the school, and (b) those who do not. It makes for equality among students; there is so harmful ire no outcasts. Nothing to young people as the inferiority that complex produced by the feeling of their group a not part are they and doing their part to make it go and be what they want to be. would I am very sure Box Elder the boys for not be as fine a place cowork, team the without and girls brought operation, and participation, about by the activity fee. that nearly May I say in conclusion high schools in Utah charge Party or Faction box ELDER SStc,.srijFARMERS les.
