ODELL GIVES ID The quarterly conference of the Box Elder Stake held in the tabernacle on Saturday and Sunday, was one of the most spirited gatherings of the members of the stake ever held. The visitors were Elder Melvin J. Ballard of the quorum of the Twelve Apostles and Pres. Seymour B. Young of the First Council of Seventy and both delivered stiring addresses at all these sessions. The themes dwelt upon, were obedience to the priesthood and leadership in the church, the present wave of unrest and immorality that is sweeping over the world and the necessity for the church members to be diligent ii performing their duties in order that this great organization can function as the Lord intends it shall in providing a panace? for the ills that beset the human family. All entertainments ought to be regulated and made to conform to the highest moral standards. The world is coming to Mormondom to learn the standard of the Mormon home and the Latter-daSaints must not get into the worldly habit of the childless home or destruction will surely come. Out of 3000 Mormon boys who went to Canp Lewis only 3 were afflicted with venereal disease. Dreaming about a thing will never accomplish it; we must work. In closing, the speaker told of the sorrow he had found out in the world, in homes where Mormon girls Had married out of the church and the message of every girl he had so found to the girls back at home, was to rather go single all the days of their lives than marry out of the church. Latter-day-Saint- y pointed to direct the campaign for the sale of war savings stamps in the state of Utah when that system of raising revenue was established by the government and he has worked assiduously and with very marked success to bring Utah well up to the front in the matter of the purchase of W. S. S. Just how his labors have been appreciated by Secretary Carter Glass of the United States Treasury and former Secretary Wm. G. McAdoo, is fully set forth in the following communications recently received by Mr. Odell, who kindly consented that the letters be published : sion at Salt Lake, at which the contract awarded Gibbons & Reed by Brigham City for street paving was approved. He submitted a Letter from State Auditor Joseph Ririe in which the minute entry setting forth that action was recorded. Mr. V. U. Butters filed an applicaaa city electri- tion for appointment cian. BRIGHAM ALL BUT BLANKS HONEYVILLE In a listless exhibition of the great national game on the local ball lot on Saturday afternoon,- the Peaches defeated the slugging Honeyville nine by a score of 14 to 1. Morgan held the visitors in the palm of his hand thru-ou- t the game while his team mates gathered in anything that be permitted to be put over. On Saturday next, the Layton nine will come to Hrigliam and try conclusions with the Peaches once more. This team defeated the locals twice this season and in fact went through a strenuous season with only one defeat. The game next Saturday, therefore, ought to be an interesting one especially in view of the fact that Morgan will do the twirling for the locals and Rill has been getting better and better. He was not on the rubber when the Laytons defeated the Peaches before. If the crowd turns out next Saturday, the team will be able to clean up - on some obligations and have sufficient funds in the treasury to secure a complete newr set of uniforms for next year. The purpose of the ball magnates for next year is to get affiliated with one of the inter-stat- e leagues, if At the game Saturday, no possible. imported players will be used. Mr. Eugene C. Wixom left on Saturday afternoon for Caldwell. Idaho, where he will buy and ship apples and vegetables in car lots for Mr. W. E. Ebbert. , - |
