The Whittier was so overcrowded at the begintng of the school year, that the school hoard was forced to secure additional quarters in the Second ward for a number of classes. The teachers and children have been anxiously waiting for the time to come when they could be housed all together in their new quarters and on Monday morning Instead of going to the Whittier, the Seventh and Eight grade students of the city, will go to the High School. Mr. R. A. Lee departed on Wednes-day afternoon, for Chicago to enter the Barnes School of Embalming and complete a course in untiertaking for which he has been studying during the past few months. He will remain at Chicago until he completely ' masters the science which will require about a month or sLx weeks. Mr. Lee will re turn to his position with the Stohl Furniture Company and be an assistant to Undertaker D. E. Young, the firm considering it wise and a matter of safety to have two licensed undertakers. Mr. Lee took up the study of embalming several months ago and has been applying himself with vigor to the book part of the work during the iterim since that time. On March 20, 1917, samples of water from the Hailing and Maple springs and from the original system in Devils Gate canyon, sent to chemist, J. E. Greaves at the Agriculture college, for an analysis to determine the properties that each contained. 1 In giving his report, Mr. Greaves computes the number of properties per million parts of water so that the result shows a remarkable condition and one that reveals some interesting facts. The Merrell Lumber Company has decided to the implement field and go after the business of supplying the farmers with some of the larger pieces of machinery which modern Invention has provided to make their lives more pleasant and profitable. This Company will not be a novice by any means in conducting this department of merchandising, for the firm carried a big line of Implements a number of years ago and only divorced the department because of a desire to pay more attention to the lumber and hardware business. Circumstances have so shaped themselves now that the firm feels justified in adding another department and getting back into the implement line. Mr. C. W. Merrell will have personal supervision of this department and give to it his entire time. The building now occupied by Merchant John Forrest will be fitted up to take care of the machinery and implements and the company wil carry the famous McCormick and International Harvester line of combined harvesters, headers, binders, mowers and rakes; P. & O.
