There is something peculiarly strange about the experience of the great majority of Utahs soldier boys. Just at the moment, almost, when they were to be called upon to take over part of the battle line, the end of hostilities came and the chance' to fight in defense of mankind was lost. But while the boys missed the great thing for which they had been training and working and longing so much to attain, the ending of hostilities just when they did made il possible for so many of these splendid young fellows to return home sound as the day they left and the rankR have been thinned but little. Not all the Utah soldiers were thus blessed, however, for some thousands were in the actual battle and not a few paid the supreme sacrifice. But as compared with the casualties of other states, those of Utah are almost negligible, and at the same time the state covered herself with glory in the great war and met every requirement, and more, that was made of her. It may be sentiment, but many people recall the declaration made by ApON SAVINGS ACCOUNTS ostle James E. Talmcge, that if the Utah soldier boys would go forth and CERTIFICATES OTDEFOSIT keep themselves clean they would be preserved. That declaration has given comfort to many a mothers heart and now that so many of the boys turned from overseas looking in the have returned from the battle front iJJIjr pink of physical condition, adds very without having had to shoot to kill to the interest In their be- nor be shot at, this prophetic promise Published every Tues- materially is remembered. home again. ing day and Friday. There are several million dollars worth of sand in the hillside near the mouth of the canyon, but the big resource brings very little revenue into the city because it is undeveloped. This tremendous wealth is lying right in sight and can be scooped up a wagon load at a time, if the' proper machinery was installed. Its fame as the highest grade building sand, would quickly spread far and wide if it were possible to get .t onto the market. To do that it is necessary to construct a railroad track to the sand pits In order to make it possible to compete with the big commercial sand companies which are operating at various places in the state. With the local sand pits put on the main line, by the construction of a branch line, and the installation of mo km machinery to scoop up the material and properly giade it, an industry would be opened up that would bring to this community thousands of dollars annually.
