Show When Preslden; Taft came to Brigham a while ago, he had a very interesting experience. With him m Ins private car were a group of men, Smoot, Congressman liowell, Senator Horsley, Representative Wei- ling, Mayor Blackburn and others. v hen the negro passed the cigars, not one of these men accepted them and the President said that never be fore had he been with a group sa large where everyone refused the ci-- ! gars. With this also he remarked T am glad that somehow I passed tho chasm between the years of fifteen and twenty-onwithout acquiring the tobacco habit. This is a srong statement from a high official and his experience with this group of men is a proper source of pride to Utah citizens. From observation of the young men who are growing up in our community at the present time however, one must conclude that either our future officers will be smokers or that the young men at the present time who are smoking will find themselves out the race for such offices as those occupied by Smoot, Howell, Horsley, Welling and Blackburn. In either case the situation is to be regretted and the Betterment League is making an earnest effort to stamp out this evil. It is hoped that parents and teachers and all those responsible for the morals of the young people will cooperate with the league in its efforts along this line. Jan. 3 to 10 has been set week and it is apart as hoped that great results will be accomplished by the program mapped out The League desires the Interest and help of everyone and it is anxious that those who believe In prayer will pray for the success of this week of war against the accursed leaf.
