CITY, AM USES DEWEYVILLE Impressive memorial services were held at the Deweyville eemotery on Monday. A number were down from Collinston and the following program w a carried out. Singing by the choir prayer, D. B. Marble, a poem was read by Mrs. J. E. Dewey, after which an appropriate address was given by Hyruin Jensen of Collinston. Monday the 23rd, the louudation was begun for our new meeting house and amusement hall. An enthusiastic crowd was working hard all last week and it is expected that the foundation will be completed this week. The building will be built of lumber and when completed will be 36x70 feet. It is very much needed and will be one of the best and most convenient buildings in the stake. A surprise party was given by the relief society in honor ot Mrs. Matilda Lish and Serilla Burbank, lormer officers of the society, Tuesday night. A baby girl was born to the wile of Joseph lfusher on Monday, the 23. During the last of this week many of the Deweyville citizens will attend conference in Salt Lake City. A tag party will be given by the Y L. M. 1. A. Thursday evening. Old and young are invited. Refreshments will be served during the evening. A number of the Curlew ers came in to town tor a few days to take part in Memorial day services. They all report crop conditions most favorable in that locality. C. J. Mrs. McDer-mo- t ahd Mrs. Redlings entertained the Royal Neighbors at the home of the tormer Friday afternoon in a delight-lu- l manner. After the program was disposed of, the ladies served a lunch, consisting ol coffee, sandwiches, strawberries ice cream and cako which was also disposed of by the guests with even more gusto than they did the program. Mrs. Thos. Davis and three children of Tremonton have been visiting the family ol T. G. Brown several days. Mrs. A. G. Woodward has been on the sick list for a week threatened with pneumonia. Mrs. Campbell and daughter Mayme of Brigham, Mrs. Drake of Bear River canyon, Mrs. Sarah Squires of Ogden, came to Corinne Monday to attend memorial services and to decorate the graves of friends in our city oemeterv. Mi's. Bast, formerly of Corinne but now of Portland Oregon, came in town Monday accompanied by her brother. Mrs. Fields drove to Tremonton Saturday on business returning Sunday. Mrs. Hikok and children of Ogden came up Sunday and will remain for a couple of months visiting with relatives. Geo. Cropley and family spent Sunday and Memorial day in town with friends. Maud Allen, student at the Ogden, high school, is home for the summer vacation. J. A. Stopley moved last week over to the cement works. Stella Bosley has gone to Salt Lake whepe she expects to secure employ-blent- , Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Hess returned from Fielding Tuesday morning where they went to observe memorial day. In speaking of the growth of Fielding Mi. Hess stated that he never had seen such a marked improvement in a town in such a short time. He and his (amily removed from that place only a lew months ago, since when electric lights have been installed, n number of private water systems have been put in and the town has taken on a decidedly metropolitan air. Fitting public services were held hi the meeting house on Monday, the great struggle which divided brother xigainst brother and father against son, and the brave heroes who fought and died for what they believed to be right. A number on the program was ol the reconciliation of the north and south, acted out by two boys cit'd in the blue and the grey. After reciting a dialogue, the young men turned and placed wreaths of flowers upon two caskets which represented the dead ol the north and south. Mr. Hess aso reported prospects for a bounteous harvest asnever better. He brought down some samples of grain, pulled from the old Hess farm, the pioneer dry farm of Box Elder County, and some of the average grain growing throughout the valley. The wheat taken from the Hess farm measures 45 Inches from roots to tops and the average grain of the valley measures 34 inches, a good healthy grain, able to make a good crop even if there does not come any rain. Everything throughout the valley is booming and farmers, as well as fruit growers, are rejoicing over what promises to be one of the greatest seasons for big crops in the history of this county. WILLARD, June 1. The Willard ward was reorganized last Sunday evening. Wm. J. Facer was honorably released ns bishop and Jos. W. Hubbard was sustained as bishop and H cigar J. Packer and A. B. Taylor were retained as 1st and 2nd counse-- ) lots respectfully. Apostle Grant addressed the congregation. He also sang, The Flag Without a Stain. Presidents Oleen N. Stohl, W. C. Horsley and others were in attendance. The Relief Society was also reorganized a few weeks ago. Sisters Mary E. Ward, Caroline Packer and Betsey Zundel were honorably released and Sisters Mary Harding, Betsey Zundel and Thursa Nicholas were sustained as president, 1st and 2nd counselors, respectively. Parley Pearson of Plymouth aud Miss Esther Warner of Malad went to Salt Lake tills morning, where they will be married tomorrow. The many friends of Carl Lech will be shocked at his sudden death. He was widely known on account of his good cornet playing, lie was hurt in Garland last Wednesday, and was taken to Ogden (his home) the following day, but was released from his suffering last night. He had organized a juvenile band and they were doing fine. Decoration Day was like any other week day except for the people going to and from the cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Isaac W. Finn have returned from Boothe valley, and they will make this their future home. A son was born to the wife of Jos. Lowe this week. T. M. Perry, June 2. C. E. Foxley brot his mother here in his new auto to visit relatives Saturday last. They left for home Tuesday afternoon. Messrs. Mark and Samuel Knight of Warren, Weber Co., and wives were visitors here on Decoration Day. Mr. and Mrs. Chariot? Stokes of Promontory returned home Tuesday, alter a few days visit with relatives.
