Gold perishes with the using; talents become brighter and stronger as they are exercised. "The Servant in the House, is a remarkable play--, but if it were produced by an inferior company, the play would lose much of its strength. As produced by Cora Mel Patten, It is simply sublime. To see a little lady, standing before a music stand which supported a book, and reading a long play in such a manner that the audience could caiily the various characters distinguish without ..aving them announced, and the reader never once moving her feet Jrom the position first as'sumed, is something little short of marvelous, yet Miss Patten did that very thing. She stood perfectly stationary, ahd with proper gestures with hands, body and head, read "The Servant In The House from beginning to end, becoming more and more intense in the Interpretation, while the audience followed with a silent interest that could not help but be felt by the reader. The reading was indeed grand. The play, in the first place, is one of those strong moral productions which leave their impress on the spirit of him who witnesses it, and would be interesting even if presented by incapable actors. But the interpretation which Miss Patten gave the piece, was real, soul inspiring and sublime, and it is safe to say that not one in the audience left the Opera House without having had his conscience pricked and his determination encouraged to live a more noble life. The reader was followed so closely, that when the piece was finished, the audience remained seated, and no one evidently cared to move .and break the spell. Miss Patten is the principal of the Marden School of Music and Elocution at Chicago, and is now making her first tour of Utah. Mrs. A. L. Neff had the pleasure of taking a course under her, while in Chicago a few years ago. Such an evening is more than wmth double the price of admission, and the pity is that we do not have more of them. Should Cora Mel Patten ever include Brigham City in her circuit at some future date, she will be given a royal reception, and we hope she will not be too long in coming back. COLLINSTON. TAKE NOTICE.
