Last Sunday the police, after a great deal of pains and hard work, succeeded in landing a bunch of young fellows, minors, who confessed to having bought $2.40 worth of beer from Wilsons saloon. They felt that they had a clear case, a dead mortal cinch, and prepared to file their complaint in the Justices court next morning. But, the saloon keepers were alert. They learned that the boys had been gathered in, and early Monday morning one of them went up to the Justice and confessed to We clipped the following from the Ogden department of the Deseret News of the 30th: James Blackwood Russell, a well known resident of Weber county, died at 2:45 this morning at his home in Roy, of cancer of the stomach. He was bom in Scotland, Oct. 16, 1842, and came to Utah 40 ears ago, and has resided here ever since. A wife and eight children survive him. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10 oclock at the grove at the county infirmary. Interment will be had in Ogden city cemetery." of Mr, Russell is the father-in-laMr. J. S. Mrs. Hull have gone to Ogden today w "S-feeli- ng run-awa- IE E Trouble occurred last night In the ward between Lars Larsen and a woman, Mrs. Lauritzen, over irrigation water. A telephony call was sent in to the police who responded promptly, but when they arrived Larseu had gone. Mr. Lanritzen, the womans husband, sajs that Larsen struck her twice with his fist, knocking her down. Dr. Pearse was sent for, as the woman went into a nervous fit, but failed to find anything to indicate that she had been injured. There were no marks on her body where Larsen is said to h.ivj strnc.c Her and the idea is quite firm in the minds of those who have been at the place that she wasnt struck at all. One man's version is that Mrs. Lauritzen became aggressive and approached Larsen, whereupon he simply pushed her away. This version is pretty well borne out by the fact that there isnt the slightest bruise on her body. When we saw the names of E. Petersen of Brigham City among the names of those who were saved from Columbia last week, we the were at a loss to place him. We have been informed now, however, that he is a son of Mr. and Mrs. ed Petersen of the 2nd ward. He and Brigham Newman, Jr., left town together some time ago to try their luck in the world and there is a question in the minds of Mr. and Mrs. Newman as to whether their boy was on this boat, or not. The last time they heard from him he was working on a boat that ran from San Francisco to Stockton on the bay. We have seen lists of both the saved and the lost, but haven't seen the Newman boys name among either. We hope he was not there. 1st ill-fat- SELLING LIQUOR TO MINORS ON SUNDAY.
