Prof. Northrop, of the Agricultural College, Logan, was in town Tuesday and in the afternoon held an informal meeting at the Utah-n- a Hotel with several of our leading farmers and fruit growers. The Professor said that it was the intention of those in charge of the Experimental Station to make some experiments in this valley this season. The people in the vicinity of Ogden are very anxious to have the experiments made there, and have offered to furnish the land and water to the Station director free of charge. He said that if the people in this county, and especially in Brigham City, would do as well, they would carry on some experiments here. different varieties of They propose to test seventy-fiv- e tomatoes, forty different varieties of watermelon and forty diff erent varieties of cantaloupe, together with some 'other things. At the meeting above mentioned, John P. Christensen, W. 0. Knudson and N. J. Nelsen were appointed a committee to look around and find one acre of suitable ground, with the necessary water, for the purpose of these experiments. Robert L. Fishburn, Jr., James Jensen and H. W. Valentine were appointed a committee to seek contributions to cover the expenses and rental of the ground for one year. The purpose of the College, however, is to conduct these experiments continuously year after year, but the same procedure with regard to rental would be gone .through with each season. A meeting has been called for (Friday) evening in the east room of the Court House for the purpose of considering the advisability of working for the establishment of this experimental farm here. It is earnestly desired that everybody interested in fruit culture and farm ing and this means every citizen in Brigham as they are all dependent upon this industry will he present at the meeting so that some decided action may be taken. It is getting late in the season and there is no time to lose. TllHtmtM f II 1 1 H 044 Names In This of Any EDWARD D, KIRK, UTAH. OGDEN, of Your .
