'Veils Did Not Attend- There was no lack of enthusiasm at the Republican rally at the opera bouse Monday night and although Governor Wells was unable to attend the audience seemed to be satisfied with the program as given. The young cannon of Leon Morten-se- n woke up the town in the afternoon and later when the Military band and the old time Martial band turned out and played on the principal streets there was an abundance of cbeerlng and enthuslam. The stage of the opera house was tastefully arranged with flags and pictures of Roosevelt and Fairbanks were conspicuous. There was a large audience, many ladles attending. On the stage besides the visiting speakers were a number of county candidates, some of the prominent Republican ladles from this city, visttors from W illard and'others. After musto by the Military and Martial bands County Chairman A, W. Valentine introduced John F. Merrell as chairman of the meeting. Hon. John C. Cutler was introduced as the next governor of Utah. Mr. Cutler told of bis visit to various towns In the county and was pleased with the evidence of thrift and prosperity. The meetings held had not been very largely attended on account of the people being busy with their farming operations He then proceeded to read his speech which somewhat spoiled its effectiveness. Many Democrats are flocking to the Republican party and he predicted a great victory for that party in Utah He spoke of some of tbs qualifications required of a governor and outlined some of the things he would do if elected, ohlef among which would be the more equal distribution of the burdens of taxation. The Martial band then played a tune and received an ovation. It has been many years since so many of the old timers were able to get together. Most of them are gray haired veterans now but tbey played with all the enthusiasm of former days. Tbey were obliged to play another tuue to satisfy the audience. Judge Frick was then introduced and he proceeded to make a speech in defense of Republican principles. Be kept the audience interested and good batured with frequeDt well told Jokes. He told of the development of the agricultural department of the government which under the Democratic administration had been useless except as a distributor of seeds. James Wilou, the present secretary, had made the office one of great import ance to the people. He also referred to the irrigation law whose benefits were only made possible by bite attitude of President Roosevelt, He thetl took up the subject of rural mail delivery by which many million farm, rs were given the advantage of a daily mail service.
