Coach Ott Romney of the Leopards last night said he and his players ere perfectly willing to meet the Toledo eleven either here or In the east. C. Oren Wilson, assistant coach, at Aba East and. secretary-treasurof the Utah High ' School Athletic association, regards the plan with favor. No definite answer can be given the Toledo school until today, when the school authorltlee will be consulted. By T. 8. ANDREWS. MILWAUKEE, Nov. 27. Ted (Kid) - Lewie, who was regarded by many of his friends as "all in" six or seven months ago. Is today holding three championships In Great Britain and Europe. By de in fourteen (eating Boy McCormick rounds in London the past week Lewis added the light heavyweight title to his string In England and he also has a right to claim the welterweight championship of Europe. In addition he holds the mid dleWeight title of England. In 1920 Lewis twice defeated Johnny Basham and thereby won the welter title, but there was some dispute about It, the claim being that some of the rules 'were not lived up to. , In the meantime Basham had won the middleweight title from Tom Gummer. so Lewis was again matched with Johnny on October 14, 1921, and knocked him out in twelve rounds. 'There was no doubt about this winning, and the former American welterweight champion' claimed the double title In England. Now he has tied the record of the late Bob Fltsaimmons that of holding three championships at one time. "Ruby Bob" y held the middle, and heavyIn weight championships at one time. beating McCormick for tho title Lewis showed cleverness and hitting Tower, besides giving sway seventeen pounds In weight. It was a technical knockout for Lewis, the referee stopping the bout in the fourteenth round when McCormick was bleeding badly and appeared hopelessly beaten. h light-heav- May Box Georges. There is a chance of Lewis being matched with Georges Carpentler of France for the light heavyweight title of Europe. Carpentler holds the worlds title, having beaten Battling Levlnsky for the same in Harrison, N. J., a year ago, Lewis has th, backing up ft for a side bet with the Frenchman and It Is understood that Major Wilson, the London promoter, has already made an offer to Georges for such a match. It would surely be more Interesting and draw a much larger crowd than the proposed match between Georges and George Cook, Australian champion, which had been set for December 2, and then December 8. only to be postponed again at the request of Carpentler, who nad been touring In French Africa and claimed to be entirely. cut of condition aa a result. Besides the prbposltlon to meet Carpentler In England, Lewis has another match, whleh is most Important to him at least he considers It such and that Is with Jack Britton for the American welter title. Lewis thinks Tie has entirely regained Ms form now and atlll feels that ne can whip the veteran Britton for the title. Lewis Is only 2t years or age and ahould $26.-0- , be at hla best now. Star Boxers Demand Fortunes. Despite the fact that wartime prices are supposed Is be past and profiteering dona away with, aome of the star boxers are still clinging to the belief that they should get everything In sight and make the public pav for It. bv charging excessive prices of admission. Most of the big boxing clubs about the country are having the same trouble In trying to make matches that of excessive demands by mansgers and their boxers. The Cream Citv A. C . of Milwaukee got a Jolt last, week when the matchmaker tried to get Johnnv Buff, champion bantam, and Pal Moore of Chicago contogether for a test. After several exchanges of telegrams the manager - of -Buff wired as follows: "Jersey Cltv. N. J Cream Citv A. C, Milwaukee, WIs : Must get seven thousand five hundred with the privilege of 4 per cent of the receipts, three round trip tickets. Including Pullman accommoten-rou- ' dations, hotel expenses paid, weight to be 118 pounds, and Drummle, my light weight must he on the same card. (Signed) Lew Diamond " It la evident that Buffs manager was too hasty in wording his as he forgot to mention that he message, should have had a valet Included. The club was even willing to pay Buff a big price In percentage, but balked at the guarantee and privilege, with all the frills thrown In. Ose of tha other stars was approached along similar lines. His demand was for 812,000 guarantee, while Charlev White was willing to taks 5000 guarantee with a privilege of 33 of the house. Now the club members are thinking of developing new talentseriously and letting the seasoned stars alone for" a while.Boxers are making business bad for themselves and they will be the losers in the end. The managers should be wise plough to know that by killing the clubs off they are eliminating their own source of revenue. Bout Not Entire Success. The match between Johnny Dundee and George K. O. Chanev for the Junior llght-eight (130 pounds) championship at Madison Square Garden, New York not the success expected. The battle was hard enough fought during the firet four rounds, but the disqualification of Chnney In the fifth for alleged fouling of Dundee was distasteful to the fans. They had expected to witness a class contest and were disappointed. It Is alfoul was the that leged unintentional in whteh ease the referee had the right to give Dundee a few ml nines time to recuperate and resume the battle, but he took the opposite course and awarded - tha verdict apd title to Dundee. strict Interpretations of the IboxingUpder law the referee. was correct In hla decision, hut there are times when It might be better to stretch a point and give the who their pay mcney the benefit people of the doubt. The title means little, aa it has never been recognized by boxing authorities before and there is really no reason why it should be brought forward w s hi 1 now. The classes are pretty well distributed as It is. Recently the French and British boxing federations have had quite an argument as to who Is European bantamweight champion. Tommy Harrison, the bant&m, defeated t'harley Ledotix, English the French and European title holder, In a twenty-roun- d match at Hanley, England, and the title was supposed to go wi(h thp decision, but the French federation claims now thst all the rules were not observed and the British board falls In line, and for that reason Ledoux still is considered champion of Europe. A well known sporting man of London In on the matter writes me commenting as follows: "From time to time the French boxing federation has greatly amused boxing fans here by its various edicts concerning European titles, but it has been left to our British board of control to cap tha aituatlon by declaring the recent Harrison-Ledou- x battle aa not being for the European title. They base their attitude on the ground that no challenge by Harrlaon was issued through them and further that no side bet was deposited. It Is perfectly true that Harrison did not seek the assistance of the board in fixing up the contest, and It is quite possible that he was not aware such assistance waa necessary. "Championship battles have been In London numbers of times withoutfought Interference on tha part of the boardany of control and it is news to mo that a side bet must be deposited with them before a bout can be held for a title." OPPONENT FOR JACK DEMPSEY HARD TO FIND By HARRY NEWMAN. lt take Tribune Lessed Wire. NEW YORK, Nov. 27. Digging up an opponent for Jack Dempsey ia aurely a man'a sized Job. Looks as though Jack Chicago Trlbune-Ss- may have to shut down shop unless some one trips In with someone to play with, It has been announced that promoters were trying to match Brennan for another Joust with theBilly rugged champion. But what would another match between Jack and the willing William mean? It would seem that twice in a row ought to be convincing enough for Mr. Brennan. At. tha (ana are convinced any that Brennan rale, does not belong In tha earns with the ring Salt Lake mauler. There ought to be aome way of arranging a tournament among the boys eo that the logical candidate for Dempsey could be determined. For Instance, Brennan could be thrown in with Tommy Gibbons or Harry Grab aud then the winner hot at Dempsev. Gibbons told the writer several months ago that he would be tickled to death to meet Brennan, but when the suggestion was made to Manager Leo P. Flynn he almost had a fit. Brennan hasn't beaten anyone since down to defeat before Dempseysgoing Iron fiats, but if he could dispose of Gibbons he could demand more respect with his challenges to Jack Kearns big walloper. While many are inclined to believe that Carpentler will never come to this country for that proposed scrap with Tom Gibbons, the suggestion has been made that Greb or Torn Gibbons might have It out to a decision, and then let the winner face Dempsey, , The argument against such a suggestion is that neither man is quite big enough to cope with the champion. This does not hold good in view of the fact that Carpentler Is smaller than Gibbons and was giien the first shot at the title. Aa wa said before, something must be done to dig up a sparring mate for Dempsey or the latter will die of lonsome-neThe suggestion that Fred Fulton might serve as a good card for the champion will probably be scoffed at. But if the lengthy plasterer could forget the name of Dempsey and get away to a good Start he would be the toughest of the whole outfit to beat. ss Single Men Win Grid Game From Married Men The single men triumphed over tha married men In the play-offootball at Cummings field yesterday morning game The score Was 13 to 7, the single men falling to kick goal off their touchdown. Defeat is blamed by the two married men who played on the team bearing that designation to the failure of nine others to show up. Due to this failure. It was necessary for the marrjed men to obtain recruits from among the numerous spectators. Besides, according to another alibi of the married men, the alngle men s team was tided with platers who have been playing at high school and college during fhe present season. Hardin Whitney scored the two touchdowns for the single men, Thomas F. Kearns making the score for the benedicts. There "will be no more games this season, the married men apparently having disbanded, They contend that the score still is evon, for they claim to have won the first contest, which the umpire declared a tie. Basketball workouta have been holding full away ait tha Granlt high school for the past two week. Plans have, been completed for the interclaaa series Which will start tomorrow afternoon. In tha dally practices mors than fifty prospects have been working out and a new arrangement for the class series haa been made to allow for all of these students to play. Each class will be represented by two fives, called first and second teams. . Each of these two teams will play both first and second teams of the other three classes, making a total of six game for each-tea- m To pWyr or a to'al of twelve games for each class. The result of tho games played by both first and second teams of the same clasa w.ll be grouped together. Thla arrangement will favor tho underclass men, which will be better prepared to furnish two strong fives from their candidates. All letter men are allowed to play In the but got more than one letter man series, can play on the aamo team. There are four letter players back fa school, but two of these played in only a few gamea last year. These are playersMon-aoLeo and Melvin Hamilton, Weldon n and Marcus Jenaen. Jensen had his foot operated on a few weeks ago and will not be out to practice until after tha Christmas holidays. Another letter man from the Dixie academy, Cecil Pugh, has n been showing good form, and is booked to land one of tha regular positions, probably at forward. Due to tha exceptionally large number of candidates working out each evening, two courts, on In each end of the large gymnasium, are being utilised, making it possible for twenty players to be in action at the same time. Most of the ers appear to be of about tha same playability to Coach Sutherland, and tha onea to make the first team will have plenty of hard, keen competition before they can win out over their competitors. Coach Sutherland ia being assisted by former Coach Sam greatly Baird, and these two should form one of the best j teams that Granite haa ever had.
