Show Tee ipammhi SPANISH FORK, UTAH, THURSDAY, AUGUST 19th, 1926 VOLUME XXV Funeral Services for Alden Dedrickson FOR THE NEBO DISIRIGT Funeral services over the remains of Alden Dedrickson were held last Thursday afternoon at the Second ward meeting house. Bishop Elisha Warner was in charge of the services and also made the closing remarks. The ward choir, under the direction of John B. Jex, with Mrs. Fern W. Brockbank at' the organ sang Jesus the Very Thought of Thee," after which the opening prayer was offered by Joseph Brockbank. The choir then sang, "Sometime We'll Understand. The speakers were Bishop Henry Gardner, who spoke feelingly of his experiences with the young man at work and while on fishing trips and paid a high tribute to his splendid character; and President Wells T. Brockbank, who also told of his acquaintance with the young man and of his many good qualities. During the services a violin solo was rendered by C. M. JaJcobsen and a vocal solo, One Fleeting Hour was rendered by Miss Ellen Jameson. The choir sang in closing Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me," after which the benediction was pronounced by Roger . Golden Kimball and Bishop Smith Principal Speakers at Conference The regular quarterly conference of the Palmyra Stake was held Saturday and Sunday, with two sessions each day. J. Golden Kimball of the First Council of Seventy and Bishop David A. Smith of the Presiding Bishopric were in attendance at all the sessions of the conference. President Henry A. Gardner pre- sided, and the congregation sang, under the direction of Ferry J. Faux, Stake Chorister, We Thank Thee O God for' a Prophet, at the opening session, which was held at 10:30 a. m. Saturday. The opening prayer was offered by Nicholas Smith, after which the congregation sang, Prayer is the Souls Sincere Desire." President Henry A. Gardner, who was the first speaker of the conference, expressed his appreciation for the cooperation of the members and pointed out that the stake had made a splendid growth, as shown in the fact that more missionaries were In the field at the present time than ever before in his recollction from this section of the country. He also stated that the stake showed a 5 per cent increase in attendance at sacrament meetings as compared with the same period of last year. Bishop Elisha Warner and Bishop W. Bird Allen, each spoke brieflly.ex-pressin- g of the Gospel, but few are really qualified to teach them properly. An investment in a mission is the best investment you can possibly make. There will be more heartaches and sorrow on the other side over the neglect of the Priesthood than anything else. There is no greater mission on the earth than to be a teacher and preacher of righteousness. At the opening of the morning session Sunday, the Third Ward choir under the direction of Glenn Rowe, with Mrs, Laura Fereday at the organ, sang "The Song of the Redeemed. The invocation was offered by Patriarch William Grotegut, after which the choir sang, "Come, Come Ye Saints. Wells T. Brockbank, of the Stake Presidency was the first speaker. He said in part: "We cannot receive the spirit of God unless we keep His com mandments and seek diligently for it. If we go to God in prayer, and in the proper spirit, He will never fail us. Lars E. Eggertsen, principal of the Spanish Fork Seminary said 'The Gospel has come to us for the purpose of making us better, and it we would carry our religion more into our daily life, we would be better for it. Our young people should become more familiar With the scriptures and the message they contain. Roger W. Creer spoke on the visit of Escalante to this valley in 1776 and compared this country to the oth. er beauty spots of the earth, declaring that this valley is the peer of any in the earth for scenic beauty of fruit fulness.
