At one time Congress thought it profitable to Institute a Mothers Day. Thus on the second Sunday of May of every year we have a National Mothers ,Day, dedicated to the mothers of the Nation. The nation recognizes the mothers, then why shouldnt we, as sons and daughters honor our parents? Our slogan says: We stand for the commandment: honor thy father and thy mother." In the days of Moses God gave the ten commandments. He said: If ye keep all my commandments, ye shall receive the kingdom of God." We stand for one of the commandments of God, we, the Mutual Improvement workers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints. God also gave us the promise that if we would keep this commandment, we should have our life we should have our life proworth while. Do we appreciate what our parents have sacrificed for us? Do we honor our parents? Our mothers have gone to the very brink of death to bring us here. She would gladly have given her life that we might live. Our parents have sacrificed all their pleasure for us, then why should we not honor them? God Is love, and without love there would be no desire to live. The first love a child has Is that for his parents. As we grow older we should not lose that love. Our parents need our respect, they never lose 'their love for their children. What hurts is to hear young people talk disrespectfully of their parents. One young man on one occasion said something like this about his father: The old man thought he could tell me what to do, but I Just showed the old geezer that I knew more than he did." That young roan was wrong. The old man," the old that was no way to address geezer his father. That father was a good Co-o- p, Special Sale of Ladies COATS and DRESSES not accept advlco. Maybe our par-euare not as lenient with us as we would like. But remember that your mother and dad are the best pals you have on earth. What fills the heart 'and soul of the parents with joy Is to see thelf children accomplish something. There was a young man who was a fine ath-elet- e. The father saw the hoy performing In public one day and when he had won, his father shouted out, "Why, that boy Is my son!" The people around him laughed to think that he would so explode In public. But no one knows the Joy that that Father possessed, because he was not ashamed to proclaim to the world that that boy was his son. Woe, unto those boys and girls who are ashamed of their parents, but doubly woe unto those girls or boys who make their parents ashamed of them. Consider your parents feelings. Our mothers have spent many a sleepless hour awaiting our return. Yet many of us would laugh if we should see a young man, his sweetheart and his mother, going to a dance, to a picture show, or for a car ride together. We would say, Do you think I would have her sticking around? I should say not." But I want to tell you that if more of us would take our parents along as chaperones, we would be happier and would save them all the sleepless hours of worry. Honor your parents, give them your respect, appreciate what they have done for your benefit. Abraham Lincoln said: All that I am or ever hope to be I owe to my angel mother." Abraham Lincoln become President of the United States, the emancipator of the slaves and the Savior of an almost fallen nation. He honored his parents. The thing that has saved thousands of young men and women from going wrong were the last bits of advice offered them by their parents. Our soldiers go out on the battlefield to fight and die, with a kiss on their lips, a hand-shakand a few words of heart-to-hea- rt advice offered them by their parents, Our missionaries go on missions with a prayer in their hearts that they may be as pure as their mothers expect. Before leaving for a mission to proclaim the Gospel to the nations of the earth, the mother of one young man came up, put her arms around her boy and said: My Son, I would rather see you come home in a coffin than to see you come back unclean. Keep yourself sweet and pure my And his father took his hand boy. and said, He Is a man. No wonder that young man came back pure and undeflled before God and the world. What would be the condition of the world without such counsel? Boys and girls, it is wonderful to have parents; it is grand to have a parents advice to guide you.
