Tho Post, dismantled of Judgment and dignity, throws slur at the Spanish Fork police furro in a vain attempt to justify the purty srrested. It attempt to belittle the officer, who did only hia duty, and is sustained In it by ail Ida fellow townsmen who know the facts, and to exonerate those arrested from responsibility. The officer we extol for his fidelity to his duty. He would have dune the same with hi fellow townsmen had they similarly to what the social et from Provo did. Let us analyze part of the Posts harangue and expose its fallacies: In the first place the Spanish Fork officer did nut "draw hi gun on Provo social set as the big searehead In the Post affirms, nor hold it in abeyance "at the point of hia gun." The social set were not arrested "to please the whims of The auto purty dethe policeman. fiantly disregarded the call of the officer to stop; they whizzed by without regard for law nr officer, their auto horn bellowing continuously for two blocks at a stretch. They Were told that they were under arrest for these act, but the officer was only ignored snd sneered aL For resisting the officer, for flagrantly violating the speed law and for disturbing tho peace, it became necessary for the' policeman to pursue the Provo party. Nor were they in the least inclined to heed the command of the officer until he fired a shot into the From the time our Provo friends air. entered the city limits they were noisy and indecorus. They did not, as the Post would have us belie vo behave themselves in a reasonable and dignified manner. Long before the officer took action, citizens had complained that such violation of tho law should not go unpunished. Our friends from Provo must not suppose that violations of the law aro to be either condoned or winked at in Spanish Fork. If our (llctTS are complained of by Provo foik, it is because the lawbreakers find that our policemen are not asleep. is - When a vrowd of pleasure seekers sumo that bv cause tiny are outside of their homo town they can turn them-doselves loose, Ignore ail law and defy authority, it takes just such ollieer a Spaui-- h Fork is blessed with to set them right. We of Spanish Fork harbor no ill will toward our neighbors of Provo, coi.trsrily we have the highest regard for them, but if we are to lie romelli d to sacrifice our visit from some of their younger generation or the good order of our city, we must choose the former. However, we welcome sny of Provo's citizens to our city. The Post affirms that the Spanish Fork officer had made boasts that he would arrest the pleasure party from Provo. The assertion ia untrue as the officer took steps only w hen it necessary for the safety ami wace of others. If the good people of Provo feel very indignant at the actions of our policeman, it may afford them relief to know that one of the arrested party justified the officer and attaches no blame upon him for enforcing the law. And that receipt-we- ll llie Post assume much but know little about it. The tfficer, on receiving the bail money gave the receipt as a matter of business. He is a business mail and knows his full duty. If the bow to Post could do likewise, it would engage in a more laudable cause than to shield even nuld lawbreakers. It is silly to remark that an officer would arrest jample merely lieeaus.? they "were not Spanish Fork residents, and nonsense to talk ef jierverted justice. ' It may calm the fevered imagination of tho Post to know that the number of young men who left Prove Saturday morning to appear at the hearing here and force the officer to fight the case and prefer charges against him for assault" did not appear. Perhaps they have a reason, and if they have not, it is possible that the editor of the Post could, by lining a few mental contortion acts, invent them one. We assure the Post that any of our Provo frienda who.keeritnc.tly within the most technical law will find peace and welcome at Spanish Fork. es weli-behuve- d g 1'" r University of Utah 1 P'1 ; pa.-ent- 5 lehem'5.!e. inlei-sected- st .
