Dec. 8 Additional depreciation of quoted values on the stock exchange eoday was accentuated by a continuance of the many adverse factors which have kept the scotrrl ties market in a state of foment for the past month. Standard or representative shares were relatively steady, but speculative issues, including numerous specialties which ere likely to modify or suspend dividend payments, broke 3 to 2 points. Pieroe-Arropreferred was in a class by itself, sustaining a gross decline of almost 26 Points, but regaining about half. Concrete examples of dividend policy were furnished by Btromberg Carburetor, drectors of which ordered a 66 per cent cut In the disbursement, and United Htatesquarterly Food Product,, whose executive committee recommended the passing of th current dividend on that stock. There was heavy selling of Mexican and Petroleums at extreme recessions of 8 and points, respectively, based In part' on the failure of the latter company to increase its dividend, accompanied by rumors that the proposed absorption of Mexican waa 'off. Other oils fell 8 to 7 points and motor accessories 8to t points. Steels, lnclud- Ing Vanadium, which announced an indefinite suspension of domestic operations, brofc4 ie 5. and recessions In food, metal, chemical and fertilizer issues ranged from 8 to1 i points Irregular rallies at th close wers most effective in investment stock Included In the few actual gains ot the session waa Peoples Gas, which rose 4 point Sales amounted to 865.000 shares. Dm money . The noteworthy. fOaturaofmarket waa the absence of new offerings of time funds, all accommodations being limited to renewals. Dec. 8 Today' market Again gavo evidence of the uncertainty and confiicting Judgment which exists regarding different aspects of the situation. While foreign exchange showed conincreased silver siderably steadiness, bullion declined still further. The Cotton market held barely steady and wheat feU e cent per bushel, although recovering nearly all that ton before the close. On Ota stack exchange prices moved with great irregularity all dav, again with distinct weakness in the industrial shares. Net declines ut one to three points In that part were fairly numerous Mid the greater part of the active list ended lower than on Tuesday; but. on the other hand, the railway Shares held pretty uniformly firm and closed in a number of Instances at a net recovery. Ail of this movement was accompanied by the now familiar talk of further business distress and the approval of a plan to defer dividends by the executive committee of one Industrial company the United Slates Food Products company, which had been paying t per cent annually until the trade reaction came gave a natural emphasis to such discussion. The stock market continued to eliow eigne of pressure by professional sharpshooters, but without attracting sfrong support, in the" money markrt there was no change; the 1 per cent call money rate was maintained with the same umformttv as was the 10 per cent rate at the height of the credit stringency. ' The general of a treasurys announcement 500,000,000 new Issue of and certificates at 5 and per cent was not unexpected by the banking community, who knew that fully 11,000,. 000,000 of older issues were due to mature In the next five weeks.
