Last Monday Justice Close found Joshua Brockbank guilty of illegally taking water from the Lake Ditch Canal and assessed a fine of $20. The defendant gave notice of appeal to the district court. The case was tried last August but the jury disagreed, and the second bearing wnB Bet for Monday. Attorneys on both sides agreed to submit the case to the justice on the evidence and pleadings of the former trial with the above result. Joseph Woods was arrested last Friday night by Deputy Sheriff Graham on a complaint charging him with a felony. He was taken before Justice Banks and placed under $500 bonds for bis appearance to answer to the charge in the district court. The complaint was sworn to by Annes Holm, who alleges that Woods had sexnul intercourse with Eva Holm, a girl under 18 years of age. The girl was married on November 26, and on Novembe 28 gave birth to a 10 pound babe, and she cluime of Woods is its father.
