Show - u n THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, FRIDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER 3, 1920. -- Salt Lake land office. It Is said, covering more than 100 square mile of this territory, and all lying within the proper limits of the geological structure which indicate oil. There are possibly fifty filings In this vicinity - on the records of the land office. It la dklmed that If a reasonable proportion of this large oil should prove productive, more than thirty square miles of the territory wlU be extremely valuable oil land, and the potential wealth resulting to the state la almost beyond Comprehension. The Circle Cliffs field is practically untouched by the oil prospector, and the present tests are mads as the result of the application of the science of 'geology to the finding of oil. This Is an grl which ha developed only within the past few year. Some year ago there was considerable oil excitement In connection with the San Rafael swell country, and some drilling was dons. It Is claimed, howver. In view of the light shed on th subject by later geological study that this work was practically wasted; that none of th wells was properly located, if the geological study indicate aright, and that none of them went deep enough to show anything as to the real nature of the structure where geologists now say oil should occur. It. should be remembered, " said -- one men familiar with oil operations In a that possibly general way last night, nine tests out of every ten made by those who are the pioneers In oil development are failurea There is a chance that the geologists for the Ohio and other large companies are correct about the Circle Cliffs, and ther is a chance that, if they are correct, th formation of the structure occurred at the proper geological age for oil to be found there now.
